Long blooming perennials in my rose garden
Comments (4)Depending on your desires, there are short and tall canna lilies, with many different colors. Peonies and clematis flowers complement roses pretty well also. And finally, one more that I like but you have to be cautious about its invasiveness, which may or may not be a problem on your property, is the passion flower plant....See MoreLong blooming perennials for Dallas
Comments (10)Hi Lou I have a number of azaleas. Which Encores did your get? The ones I've had best results with or the Amethyst (purple) and the Salmon. I got Monarch and another orange and have not been as pleased. In fact...my favorite azaleas are the spring bloomers rather than the Encores. That said, MetroMaples used to be an azalea grower. He says that they need pine. In fact, he says they get all they need from pine. I cut my Christmas tree in pieces and toss them under my azaleas. Have gathered pine needles too from those huge pine trees in our neighborhood. I also like the azalea food from Calloways. It has many different minerals in it. Ironite is helpful, when that wasn't enough, I sprayed with iron on the leaves. They greened right up. Most of all, never let them droop. If you see your azalea wilt and droop for lack of water, water immediately. They have a really hard time recovering. BTW, I'm a new fan of Camelias. They seem to like some sun too, My azaleas get morning sun. Had to cut trees back to repair roof last spring. Some got a LOT more sun but only a little afternoon sun. They showed it. The azaleas and camelias took it better. Hope this answers some of your question. They do need some sun. if you haven't plante the azaleas yet, you might reconsider. Yes, I do love them and I have them but... c...See MoreSuggestion for a long blooming perennial ground cover

Comments (29)Littlebug - glad to hear from a Missourian here, thank you. Yes, that lower bed of yellow is Zagreb and is VERY hardy and proficient, much more than the Moonbeam I had at first. And I do have 2 different beds which have Shasta Daisy. Andy, thank you and I have really been thinking hard about a good reblooming Daylilly, maybe red. I actually have one whole bed of Daylilly and another smaller portion of bed with different daylily but they all do fantastic in my zone and soil. Also have Shasta Daisy in two beds. Your Echinaceas are beautiful and especially like the red one. That is why I liked my Gaillardia because it had red edges and I have, after looking closely to my pic above (use the Zoom to make larger) I actually think I need something other than solid yellow, which is why I liked my Gaillardia because it had red edges. In the 11 years of having this perennial bed I have tried MANY different perennials, and quite a few just don't like it here, and therefore I will probably do some more doubling up on the varieties of those which have done well. I also have to work with what is available at my nurseries. And Echloane, thanks again. As I mentioned above I have several Daylily beds but they do best of anything. So this is a very good possibility. I have some great ideas here, and learned about flowers I have really never heard of before, I have pots of annuals in this bed right now and may just live with those for right now unless I just happen to see something more permanent the next time I go to Kansas City. I am also a Bluebird Nut and cater to them, especially around this nesting time, so they take up a lot of my time, monitoring the nest, feeding mealworms, etc....See Moregetgoing100_7b_nj
