David Austin Roses in Orlando.
Comments (9)Your bloom is lovely! I agree with Ken, talk to your local rose society for the best advice for your area. They'll be able to guide you in the right care for your climate. I don't think Austin roses are any different than most other roses in growing needs. After good soil they need sun, water and food. You certainly don't have to buy the Austin fertilizer unless you want to because you like it. Any good slow release should work fine. I've used Osmocote and Miracle Gro and others and they all work. If the pots have settled or soil has washed out you can add soil to the tops but you might want to think about maybe putting some kind of mulch on the tops instead. A good mulch can help with water retention in a pot. I use a fine pine bark mulch in my pots usually but there are a lot of choices and I'm not sure what's available in Florida....See MoreLooking for Abraham Darby & Heritage cuttings
Comments (4)Hold on while I haul out my soap-box . . . In most cases, we avoid propagating a rose that we can easily purchase. Legal, or not. Our reasoning is, we look around at the vendors who have left the field, and we get pretty depressed. Please, PLEASE! Whenever possible, buy the roses from a good vendor. Because, IF WE DON'T USE 'EM, WE'RE GONNA LOSE 'EM. Even if it's legal -- if you can BUY it, thus supporting a vendor (who is probably not living on Easy St.) PLEASE DO THAT! Comments (2)Thanks for the heads up! I called, but sadly they are now out of stock. I'm going to look at the big chain stores this weekend (gulp!). And you know, I can always just be patient and wait for next year. Sigh....See MoreWho am I? Looks like a David Austin or another English rose!
Comments (29)I have 5 abe Darby's & 3 tamoras they both have great scent - your rose looks like Darby to me !! The colors can vary depending on weather when it comes to Darby. In winter my blooms have strong apricot, peachy yellow & pink but in summer it's very pink. Tamora can also vary in color due to weather. When I saw your pics- Darby was first rose that came to mind. I'm a David Austin rose freak - I have around 20 different austins, plus a few extras of my favorite Austin bushes but I'm not counting those. Tamora is a great rose also, the scent reminds me of starburst :) yum but here in class the bush isn't the most vigorous grower- Both are susceptible to black spot in my garden. Darby however is extremely vigorous. I've noticed on my Darby, the blooms can vary greatly, some are so packed with petals & others not so much ( prob Bc of the heat!) i just dead headed all of mine otherwise I would post pics :( sorry but Good luck!! :)...See MoreKen Wilkinson
