If you could post a photo that would help. You can go the clematis on the web and look at their photo's to see if you can recognize it. Go to their picture search and enter the colors. Do you know what pruning group it is? Is it blooming on the old wood(2) or new wood(3)? If you can enter the pruning group that helps to narrow it down. Nice! F. rubra spreads the same way, never producing a seedling, at least in my dry sun garden - just some spare clumps off the main plant. I like the foliage on this one - If you have some shoots to spare next spring at the swap, I'd love one! Dry shade is good for something - specifically keeping thugs in check. I've had bishops weed in my "woods" for about 10 years with no sign of it spreading.

Out of all the ones you showed the one you picked is my favorite. So price does not always lead to the nicest one. I was looking on e-bay for a Laelia anceps and the person wanted $200 for a 3 bulb division. I asked him about his starting price and supposedly it is an award quality strain and could be used for breeding. Still seems a little steep to me.
