I'd say they are both Syngonium podophyllum cultivars, but not the same one. The top looks like the cultivar we (Aus) call "Spear Point" and the 2nd more like cultivar "ultra" though I'm sure there are plenty of "names" around. Also there can be a lot of change from juvenile leaves to more mature ones. Although you refer to one as a "water plant" indeed they will root from a node and grow in water, but will also root in well-drained but moist compost (like an orchid mix) and grow in soil. Either way they look for something to climb and the extra roots they make along the way both provide support and nourishment if they are lucky enough to find a suitable support - tree, porous wall, bark totem etc.

OK, you asked for it!! Herewith a smack on the head, both sides, repeatedly, until some sense has been knocked in!! :-) Plant it in the lawn to stop it invading the garden beds? THAT won't work. Not only will it choke out the grass, but it will spread far and wide - usually where it isn't wanted!! Why not hunt out an old bathtub, or some old concrete laundry tubs, or a cattle trough or something similar and large, and use that as a pot? It won't solve the problem of spreading entirely, but it will keep it contained for a bit longer. From time to time, you'll need to dig out some of it to make more room, but you'll still have plenty left to indulge yourself with mint tea. BTW, go easy on that mint tea. One cup per day is a medicinal dosage - more than that, and you could begin to have problems with headaches, indigestion, fatigue etc.

The 2nd one looks like Cheatin' Heart which is the original plant from which Illicit Affair, Stolen Kiss, Faithful Heart and Change of Heart sported. From one of these (I think Faithful Heart) Silver Threads sported from. Illicit affair emerges all gold and develops an off white margin shortly after emerging. I hope this helps. Tim
