Help me choose a climbing rose
Comments (12)Personally, you have an awful lot of PINK - which I love. However, some white would make those pink lovelies strut their stuff a little - and then maybe a yellow blend - and you'd be in rose heaven on the climbers. For white, Lamarque is a healthy noisette. I don't grow, but that's the word and the heritage. I do grow Alister Stella Grey (sp?) and this one is a delightful cream with early lemon accents in the Noisette family. Or, if you want profusion - try Prosperity! What a healthy heifer. She's all white and never says no to cluster blooming from head to toe all summer long. Golden showers is a full bloom healthy yellow climber. Or if you stick to the glamour of the antique style, crepuscle will line you up with a yellow / apricot bloom. It's a noisette as well. You should have fun with all the possibilities. Let us know what you go with....See MoreHelp me choose container climbing roses for an Italian balcony
Comments (30)I haven't found 'Colombia' here so far. Do you think 'Felicia' would be happy in a pot in the heat? I've read that it could be trained as a short climber and HelpMeFind lists it as suitable for containers. Same questions for 'Eglantyne'. I also noticed a climbing 'Souvenir de la Malmaison' (stingy repeater?) and a climbing 'Yves Piaget' (the regular version blooms all summe here) in a catalgoue which I can't find much info about. I love Boncrow's suggestion of Clothilde Soupert but the climber sounds like it gets pretty big too....See MoreNeed Help Choosing a Climbing Rose Zone 6b
Comments (10)I do not live in a climate which is anywhere close to yours, so I can't help, except to say that that appears to me to be the PERFECT place for a climber! You need a rose which is a cold hardy climber - I believe there are lots on the market, but living in CA I never think about them. I know there are breeders who breed nothing but cold hardy roses. Even though you are in zone 6, I think that would be very important, because your rose would be exposed to the elements all winter, and you would not be able to bury it or wrap it up. You would want the climbing canes to survive winter as much as possible. Hopefully someone who lives in a cold region will see this. Also, you can contact your nearest Rose Society, and ask them. Good Luck - great idea! Jackie...See MoreHelp on choosing climbing roses
Comments (53)Thanks a lot for all the wonderful suggestion. We used to have a line of cypress along the fence giving us a lot of privacy. I got rid of the trees for the roses, but I really hope the climbing roses could provide both beauty and privacy. I think I could sacrifice a little thorn for beauty, as long as they are not like those epic thorn on New Dawn. So here are my latest climbing roses selection. Yellow - Crepuscule, Teasing Georgia, Reve d'Or Dark Pink - Peggy Martin, Pretty in Pink Eden, Raspberry Cream Twirl Since other flowers were planted only 5 feet away from the fence, there is not much space left for shrub roses between the fence and other flowers. The only way is up the fence. However, I did find enough space in front of the Tea Olive for a shrub roses and I like the suggestion of Belinda's Dream....See Moremjw0088
