Oh you just have to love genetics!! Which is why your white flower seeds produced a burgundy/gorgeous flower. In order to get true to type you have to do stem cuttings. Otherwise you cant tell what genes will be dominant. I have the white texas star, and am saving seed. I hope I can get the results you did! That is awesome!!

It could be that the new growth hasn't matured enough to set flower buds. Since they bloom on new growth, then encouraging as much growth as you can should help increase the chances of a longer bloom period.

The vinegar makes the soil slightly acidic (Hibiscus prefers) and may increase the availability of nutrients to the roots. Hah, I think I figured this out on my own. Looks like I have Hibiscus 'Rainbow Christie'. Pretty sure. There is an improved variety called 'Over the Rainbow'. I think the mystery may be solved :-) Patty S.
