How to Cover Hole in Guava Tree Trunk?

Irene L
last year

Hello, everyone! :)

I would appreciate your expert advice on a predicament I am currently facing with my guava tree:

I recently had to cut away a part of the trunk that had rotted and had collected water. Now, there is still a large hole left behind that I need to keep dry so as not to attract insects and disease, but I cannot seem to figure out a way beyond covering with plastic wrap! (please see photo)

Other than this, my guava tree is very healthy and is currently putting out new leaves.

Any suggestions are welcome!

Thank you,

Irene
