Help! Have Discovered Grape Vines At New Home
Comments (7)If you are going to take the trees out right away, you can cut those grapes down and they will survive. I wouldn't take them to the ground. If you leave a couple of feet of vine, that short a bit will be pretty easy to untangle. If you aren't taking the trees down right away, leave the vines and see what they produce. Whether or not you like the grapes is going to make a difference in how you treat the vines. It sounds to me like the first step is to get the ivy under control. The trees might possibly be something to save. You won't know until you get them unburied and determine what they are and give them some pruning and care. Who knows, maybe those are fruit trees. I wouldn't automatically assume that grapes in a once cultivated garden gone out of control would be wild grapes. They could very easily have been deliberately planted back in the days when the garden was tended. I bought a place that had been abandoned for 6 years. The surviving plants were in bad shape, but I babied them just to see what I had. They looked like garbage, but some time in the past, someone was a pretty good gardener and most of the plants turned out to be excellent. It took some serious work to bring them back, but it was worth it. 2 completely "dead" bushes turned out to be gorgeous hardy hibiscus that have flowers for 6 months solid. 3 "dead" fruit trees are bearing fruit for me. An unidentifiable tangled mess of dead twigs is now a sweet-smelling honeysuckle. Clean up first, then stand back and take stock....See MoreBritish expressions found while reading...........
Comments (70)Never thought of the narcissist angle, but it does make sense. When you think how welcoming everyone over here was, with as far as one can tell little bother about POC, in fact it appeared like a breath of fresh air. Grandmother-in-law took her under her wing (perhaps remembering how D had been treated in the early days with little apparent concern for her welfare). Lots of smiling, glad-handing, beautiful wedding etc. How/why did it all go wrong SO quickly? At the moment yet another legal dispute in underway between the Home Office and the couple concerning their security when/if they visit these shores. They feel their family will not be safe as they are no longer entitled to round the clock police protection, and "Sorry Sir but you cannot hire the Metropolitan Police by the hour/day. That isn't their job." BTW Don't forget that Daddy has already given you millions of £££'s. You are not on the breadline. A short afternoon tea visit to Windsor has given him the realisation that he must 'protect' HM and make sure the 'right people' are around her; whatever that means....See MoreHave you discovered any new blogs, instagram decorators, etc...
Comments (44)I know Sue! Oh well. At least I left the wrong man behind with it. No point in living in a great house when you are depressed and do not like the person with whom you are living. Suddenly nothing looks very pretty. BTW, Those colors are distorted... at least in the living room....See MoreDiscovering new relationships
Comments (7)there was a prior AHS president.. with whom??? i walked a hosta garden .. who could name species heritage of any given hosta.. by flower form ... a couple I THINK's here .... i think .... with all that nonsense with them selling elegans as coming thru true from seed ....one thing that differed was flower height ... the real elegans.. should have flowers just below the leaves .. just barely peaking out.. so if it doesnt.. then you wonder what it was.. is ... i think he said ... genetically speaking... flower form is not as .. whats the word ... variable as other things... i dont know the genetics words for such ... and i have no clue if i am making my point.. anyone??/ .. perhaps he suggested it followed the pod parent or some such .... i wonder if zilis covered this in his tome .. or schmid ... well deb.. youve made the next step ... you are making observations .. and based on your ever expanding knowledge level ... coming up with insight .. well done ... ken ps: oh ,... smith made one cross to begin the tardianas .... back in his day .. what the 60s or so ... the blue hosta were very rare .. and they were all huge.. his GOAL ...[ which we all have with seed growing.. lol ... ] ....was a small blue ... so he crossed a big blue with a small green ... and came up with a long line of small and medium blues .. with a few oddball yellows in the mix ... he did this out 2 generations ... which you sometimes see 2 x 6 .. or some such associated with the name ... and he named a lot of them after british birds.. whats that all about.. lol .... [the real interesting thing was that the blue was a freak late bloom that just happened to occur when the green was available... imo.. just pure luck ...] benedict took them even further out into i think ... [another one of those] ... out the the 5th and 6th generations ... crikey.. thats a long term goal ... god i am a font of useless information this morning .. lol ... what was the original question??? ..lol.......See Moreyoyobon_gw
