Gritty mix alternative
Comments (1)Wow, that looks like a top rate mix! I don't know those plants well. If worried about it being too dry add soil moist when planting. I would also add Biota Max to make sure you have the bacteria to utilize the organics in the mix. Here is a link that might be useful: Biota Max This post was edited by Drew51 on Mon, Feb 10, 14 at 4:55...See MoreEasy Orchids??
Comments (11)Thanx for your replies! I asked my mother and she has the all about orchids book and is going to let me borrow it. Of course the green thumb theory is bogus, most of the time ignorance and lack of care is why anything dies be it plant or animal. And I havent' taken it personal, kinda hard to given that I don't know you, you have exactly zero impact on my day to day life and I havent given your words any sway lol. But you are right and I can't fault you for being peeved. I have looked online at a few different sources as far as orchids go. I have seen some absolutely gorgeous plants but I figured I would ask people who have some experience to see if they had any idea what i had rather than toil through and see what I ended up with. One quick question, do orchids ship well? I had a bonsai that never recovered from it so wanted to make sure. I don't have alot of time to dedicate to orchids solely given that I am also starting a few other plant projects this year and so wanted the type of flowers I had but no clue what they were. Oh and another thing, you mentioned that phalaenopsis are sold at places like Lowes and Home Depot but that they generally lack knowledge for thier care. If I were to go to such a place to find a few orchids, is there anything I should look for to make sure my plant isn't on the downslope? Thans again for the replies =)...See MoreIs it legal to bring in orchids, etc.
Comments (7)Aloha Melanie, I'll be arriving in November to stay 2 weeks. Can't tell you how much I am looking forward to this trip! "Garden paradise" they say. We'll stay on Oahu 3 days, the rest on Kauai. What can you tell me about your beautiful island? I am an avid gardener, but turned my interest toward orchids a year ago, so my collection is still small. Yes, I would like to bring a plant or two back with me, if possible. You sound confident, that's a good thing! While I have your ear, may I ask why my white ginger is not blooming? It is sitting under dabled shade,(temps are 85-95 deg. during the day. 56-62 at night) is 4 ft. tall, plenty of leaves. It sported 2 buds earlier this year, but they would not open fully, only one little flower popped open in each bud, then the bud dried up.
