My goodness, I feel like I need to chime in here. I too have a little Meyer Lemon tree, a I am just amazed at it, It's just a little thing, and I've had it going on 3 years now. It has one huge lemon that seems like it must be a year old and almost ripe, then another about golf ball size and I see a baby about pea size on there now. It never had noticeable dropping of baby lemons. It seems like it blooms year round...but it lives in a greenhouse year round. I've never fertilized it, and it is potted in plain old commercial potting mix. Now that I read what it needs for potting soil when it grows too big for the pot I will mix my own. I'm really thrilled with this youngster. How long do they live? Should I be putting it outside in the summer?

Good to hear it's probably just physical damage... makes sense since the plant did have to travel a few days via mail order. I am going to be moving it soon again because I have a job in Massachussetts for the month of July and will be staying at a friends house. I'm bringing a bunch of my plants with me because I don't trust my friends too much with my more expensive/ more important plants. It will be in a car for four hours and then it will live outside in Mass for two months. It'll have to take the trip back again, but then it's permanent residence will be in my sunroom. Do you think these two moves will be too harsh on it?

Dave - I would look at your indoor growing space with a critical eye and think about the following: IF you can provide really good citrus growing conditions (really good light, like a metal halide/high pressure sodium lamp, good humidity, air circulation) then your citrus will grow well year round and warmer temps are very beneficial. However, I, and most others, don't have these greenhouse-like conditions inside the home. If, on the other hand, you are growing with natural indoor light, or at most a fluorescent or two, then the light is really too dim to support decent growth. Warmer temps under dim light conditions encourge the tree to grow without the proper energy inputs. The result is usually leaf drop. By keeping temps cool, you encourage the tree to enter and stay in a semi-dormant state and you can make it to spring without losing too may leaves. Added bonus is that cooler temps automatically make your relative humidity higher. I also cut back on watering, as a semi-dormant tree doesn't need much water and the risk of root rot is higher. Anyway, this is how I think about the winter indoors. Anyone else with successful strategies in the frozen north?

Last year my Meyer lemon tree was extremely prolific , this year although it has lots of flowers a produces fruit they start to turn a brownish color before they get to full-size and ripen. The tree is in a 7 gallon pot and get sufficient son and I have fertilized it per direction. The only problem may be that here in Alachua county Florida we’ve gotten an insane amount of rain this spring and summer . Help!
