Argh that happened to me, Josette. I suspect it was because I sealed my adenium crib and there was zero air circulation. I sprinkled generously with ceylon cinnamon which killed the green goo within a day. But that batch was a goner by the time I remembered I had seeds incubating somewhere in the room. A couple of days after applying cinnamon (the odor of that stuff makes my stomach lurch), I got impatient and removed the two seedlings that sprouted and put them in a fresh pot. I dug around for the rest of the seeds, squished three perfectly good ones in an attempt to test if they were still okay, lost three more to the green goo and found two seeds that appeared to still be alright. One of the seeds went into one of the fresh pots. A week later, it was out and is now a plant. The last seed was sliced so its insides could be examined. Not really like beansprouts or even rice sprouts and not a touch of the blobulous mass of fungal fiesta that overwhelmed its brethren. Curious, that. There are chemical sprays you can use, but others here will know better. I frankly cant imagine anything more foul than cinnamon. Pagan

It sounds like beneficial fungus to me. Is it kind of webby if you look closely? If it's what I think it is, its good stuff. I looked up the annual rainfall in your state, and it says it varies from 43" to 51". That's a lot of rain! Lots of rain leaches out plant nutrients like nitrogen, calcium, magnesium, boron. Does your untreated soil tend to be acidic (below 6.5?) I would try another soil lab. But maybe before that, I would send in two samples to your regular lab. Send one under your name of your improved soil. And send in another one under a different name (use a neighbor's name, address, handwriting), with soil collected from a site you KNOW is unimproved, 'just dirt'. See how different they are... or aren't. And be sure to label them ORGANIC, just in case. I have heard of labs that were too lazy to run their soil tests, and they just sent out generic test results that didn't mean anything. I live in a high-rainfall area, too (Pacific Northwest), and get the same garden results. We need to apply lime every year to get/keep the calcium levels up. And, BTW, realize that many/most soils need calcium (lime) no matter what the pH is. Don't worry about the pH as much as the calcium levels. Calcium is the bus that transports the other nutrients into the plants. If your soil is short on calcium, your plants won't do well. If your pH is under 6.5 and short on magnesium, you can use dolomite (calcium magnesium carbonate). If your pH is under 6.5 and okay on magnesium, you can use agricultural lime (calcium carbonate). If your pH is over 6.5, you can use gypsum (calcium sulfate) which won't raise the pH. There's also the chance you have nematodes or something, too. Ask your Cooperative Extension Service/Master Gardener if that is an issue in your area. Pump them for their thoughts on your problem, that's what your taxes pay for. Natalie, I haven't used the product so just thinking out loud here after looking it up on their website - I can applaud the idea, but wonder how efficient. The tray is made of waste paper, and the 'soil' in which to start the seeds pure worm castings. Seeds really don't need anything quite that rich for their humble beginnings, they can pretty much take care of thier own nutrition, and the cells are too small for anything but beginnings. Worm castings alone hold a lot of moisture, the only place I ever use them is in amending beds (as a small part of organic amendments) or sparingly top dressing around a plant.

Oops, I see that I incorrectly posted the same picture twice. Here is the third photo I meant to attach. I looked at some photos of the different types of myxomycetes (Slime Mold),and couldn't find anything that looked exactly like what I have, but it still could be. Any suggestions on how best to deal with slime mold (myxomycetes). I don't really want it around my house, even if it is not really harmful. How much worse can it get? Thanks
