Plumeria leaf spot problem?

Thanks for the informative website, it is so helpful to my gardening efforts.

I have a plumeria bought from Summerwinds Nursery in San Jose, CA two months ago.

The leaves are showing black spots. I would like to understand the cause and the cure

of the problem. Thanks in advance for any advise you may provide.

This looks like Plumeria Rust Fungus. Since it's a fungus it has spores & is highly contagious to your other Plumerias! (The leaves/spores are even contagious on dead dried out leaves too!) You need to remove the diseased leaves & dispose of them immediately. I highly recommend using a Copper Fungicide. Lowes & Home Depot both carry "Bondie 775 Copper Fungicide". (The concentrate is a much better deal & then you can put it in a more effective sprayer of your choice too!) It is an organic fungicide, works on a wide variety of plants & fungi/diseases, & most importantly works well as a preventative measure as well!

if you planted it less than a month ago.. then its transplant shock... water properly for the rest for the year ... IMHO.. disease simple does not happen that fast.. and we have to presume.. that it came.. disease free from a seller ... as a newb.. let me suggest.. you have had more problems.. and more treatments.. than i have on my 5 acres in 10 years ... as i dont treat anything.. ever .... try to become a little less of a worrier.. and understand.. that a garden is not a disney movie ... you dont have to react to.. and treat every little thing.. and not everything will be picture perfect ... search for knowledge ... but dont react.. unless the plant is threatened .. and thats my wisdom for the day .. good luck ken ps: i would bet.. that transplant shock is increased due to all the brick work.. which retains heat long into the night.. which is usually a cooler recovery time... nothing to do about that.. but water properly ... your plant is hardening off.. to its new location .... pps: its stressed.. not hungry.. feeding it will not help ...

Was the damage apparent before you fertilized? What did you fertilize with? In what concentration? That would be my no.1 suspect. If the damage preceded the fertilizer then it is probably a bacterial infection. No.1 cause of which at this time of year is weakened resistance due to heat/drought. Not Magnesium deficiency. I don't usually post but had to tell you all how much I admire your plants. OMG! I can't believe how nice those tomato plants are!! My last two tomato plants are barely hanging on, finally transplanted a grape tomato out of a container into a morning sun/afternoon shade area in my garden and the husky cherry is under my oak tree. I have one lone tomato on it and am determined to see it through to ripeness. Bamboo Rabbit - I would really be interested in getting some Matts Wild Cherry tomato seed from you if you have any to spare. BTW I'm waiting for a shipment from Jung's of Yummy Peppers. I've always gotten aphids on my peppers, whenever I've put them in the garden, so I'm interested to see if these will deter them. Sylvie

It would seem to be damage to the leaf very early on or while it was starting to open. Maybe insect or maybe a cold day stunted it some. If the next generation of leaves continues then I would say treat for insects.
