Can a shrub be half dead and half alive?
Comments (9)Ken, why you clownin' ?! :D I lurk on a few forums- hosta, conifer, perennial, woodland, shrub, etc... and love reading your posts! I feel scolded. But it's all good :) Some of the stems did have green rings, which I thought were curious. Better stop pruning... In my defense, I have yet to kill a hosta! And I have inherited quite a few of them at our "new home" in Illinois. I will post some pics so you can see my work isn't all bad! But this is also my first year in gardening and I am discovering a passion for plants that I've never had before- I'm just excited to learn the names of things I have walked by and never noticed before. Oh, well, live and learn!...See MoreShrub being eaten alive? Please help identify.
Comments (2)Euonymus scale. Your infestation is so bad that there probably is no effective cure except to remove the euonymus shrub(s). Not worth a battle with the scale. It is specific to euonymus and won't get onto the boxwoods. This post was edited by hortster on Sun, Aug 17, 14 at 14:28...See Moreplease help me identify this shrub!
Comments (6)Thanks to you two for helping. At first I thought the Kerria might be it from the description, but when the picture loaded I saw it wasn't. I forgot to mention that it has yellow flowers. The leaves are like in threes. The bush actually reminds me of a Lady Banks rose. My neighbor was thrilled..she's like me, she likes to find things that not everybody else has. We won't know until spring if hers is the double or single flower, though. I sure hope my cuttings take...they should, because everywhere I read about it said that they will root on their own when they touch moist soil. Anyway, it is definitely the winter jamine (jasminum nudiflorum), but I still have not found a double flowering type on the internet. I'm still looking, though, and if anyone finds one, let me know!...See MoreCan someone please help identify this shrub?
Comments (5)We can see just enough to tell this identification is probably correct but if you send any other subjects later note that much closer views are often required for reliable results. Also I will mention that pink forms of star magnolia and the Loebner magnolia selection 'Leonard Messel' can look very similar without close comparative inspection....See Moredoriswk
