Emily bronte, Gabriel oak or Eustacia Vye?
Comments (2)I have all 3 but Gabriel Oak and Eustacia Vye are both new bare roots. I think Marlorena would be in a better position to advise you since as far as i'm aware she has all three. I've only had Emily Bronte for 1 year but for what it's worth I recall the fragrance in it's first year being very nice! It's a strong sherbet like fragrance with strong grapefruit overtones. Reminds me of those love heart sweets. I have no idea how it will be when the scent stabilises in later years. Unfortunately (and DA don't seem to stress this enough) the perfectly coloured blooms ALL pale into an ugly pale brown/creamy colour that looks in every way, worse than how the blooms look at their best. DA are obsessed with this paling in their roses even if it seems to detract from their beauty....See MoreDavid Austin Shrub Rose - Eustacia Vye (1st year - 2nd flush)
Comments (7)Hoang Ton, Simply Gorgeous! I love how the blooms have retained good color, not to mention the many petaled overstuffed look which I love. Man pink Austins fade terribly in our dry heat. EV looks like she can take what summer dishes out. I am impressed with this rose. Please continue to post updates on how she performs this summer. Diane...See MoreGabriel Oak - 2nd Year
Comments (10)Hoang Ton: Thank you for info. about scent. Still kick myself for buying own-root Princess Anne instead of Boscobel years ago .. just because someone reported zero scent on Boscobel. I didn't get any scent from my 11th-year own-root Christopher Marlowe until its 2nd year. Many thanks to your tip of air-pot for high-rain climate, I bought GROW-GREEN 11.8In x 15.7In (Diameter x Height) 7 Gallon 6-Pack Plastic Air Pruning Pots with Saucer (13.5 inch saucer) for $60 today. Last Oct. my own-root Pretty Lady Rose lost all its leaves in week-long rain in my zone 5a in a dinky plastic pot. Last year I got 5 large trees chopped down, and tree roots haven't decomposed for digging, so I'll grow roses in pots first, before transferring into the ground. Every time I transfer roses from plastic pots into the ground, I always lose roots. Air-pot would make it easier. I look forward to growing Vietnamese Thai Basil in Air-pot. The Thai Basil which I grew in a fast draining spot was 4 times bigger than the one in poor drainage clay, plenty to eat with VN beef noodle soup....See MoreEustacia Vye Size-warm Climate?
Comments (2)Thank you dianela. Your EV is beautiful! Mine has been in a pot a year and looks very similar in size to yours. I knew I was asking a lot, for size info in a warm climate, so soon but thought I'd give it a shot haha! If EV does get like Olivia here, she will be a short climber lol. I had 2 Olivias holding their own on a gazebo with 2 Teasing Georgias at my old house but I am half a zone colder here in the FL Panhandle. I really need to get EV in the ground so I guess I will go ahead and put her in with the Evelyns and see what happens. I am also toying with the idea of adding either Sharifa Asma or Mill On the Floss (not really apricot) to that bed just to get them out of thier pots. I wonder if the Mill On the Floss petals can hold up to the intense heat of a block wall in full sun? Anyone know? I have 2 Abe Darbys that would totally go w the apricot color scheme but they are on Fortuniana so will become climbing monsters here. Just thinking out loud lol and greatly appreciate any advice :) ~Sjn...See MoreHoang Ton - Zone 9a
