Did my geranium (pelargonium) actually produce viable seed?

Every year I winter-over several of my plain old "windowbox geraniums" (Pelargonium x hortorum) that I have had for years on a SE-facing bay window sill where they bloom happily and cheerfully throughout the winter with the snow outside as a backdrop. This spring I was surprised to see that a couple of the plants had produced the typical cranesbill seed pods. I guess I was just not as quick to remove the faded flowerheads as I usually am, but when I saw the pods I decided to leave them on awhile just to see what may happen. Well, yesterday when I was watering all of the plants on the shelf I noticed that 4 or 5 of the pods had split and on the tips were what apparently are ripe seeds with a little bit of fuzz (kinda like a dandelion seed "parachute"). Are pelargoniums self-fertile? Could I plant these & expect new little pelargoniums (pelargonia)? I've raised others from cuttings for friends but think it would be a fun new experiment to see if I could grow some from seed. Comments?
