Corn is tasseling - shouldn't I have ears??
Comments (13)Just wanting to comment on a few posts. I agree that my plants aren't 100%, like I said this is only my second year. However, I don't think its from underwatering. We've had a lot of rain here the past week or two and the days it didn't rain alot, I made sure I watered them deeply if the ground was dry. I think maybe I didn't put enough nitrogen. I read online early on that I should sidedress with a high nitrogen fertilizer once when they are a foot high and right before tasseling which I did but I guess maybe that wasn't enough. The reason I didn't put more was because I read somewhere when I was researching what to fertilize it with before planting that you can burn the plants by putting too much nitrogen on them so I didn't want to over do it. I used bloodmeal and they turned much greener after both applications. So that I know this for next year, how often should I apply the nitrogen??...See Moreapplication for permission to date my daughter
Comments (7)Loved reading this! Only had a son, but raising him was tough enough, esp. from age 19 - 23. The Navy was the answer to my prayers and he is now a wonderful father to 3 kids. A friend said the other day that she would rather raise a football team of boys rather than one girl! I have a granddaughter, so look forward to watching from the sidelines how that develops. Going to send this application to my son/daughter in law. Thanks for the laugh! Glad my father didn't have that - he would have used it! Judith...See MoreFree fish to a good home.
Comments (3)There are strict rules about what you can ship OUT of Hawaii, but they seem quite lax as to what you can bring in. Label the package "fertilizer" and we should get away with it. And it would even be true!...See Morehelp!! i'm losing my av's again!
Comments (3)Calshaye - I think to identify the problem we need to see the pics of your algae and Powdery Mildew. Something doesn't ring right. Powdery mildew on perlite? I can imagine some fuzzy mold on perlite, but not PM. PM looks like somebody sprinkled your leaves with fine white powder. You will not be able to see it on perlite no matter what. If it is a fuzzy mold, not PM - it is harmless - and replacing the soil on the surface is probably the max you need to do. Algae - if you have it - no reasonable amount of Physan is going to kill it. Very concentrated Physan probably will - but your plants will be killed first. It is mostly harmless, it consumes the fertilizer to some extent and it is absolutely bad if you are trying to grow something from seeds. It will choke them. otherwise - replacing the top layer of the soil is probably the most you need to do - or just leave it alone. How much fertilizer you put in your water? What is the brand of your 7:7:7? It would be really helpful if you take pics, if you have trouble posting them here - send them directly to me - if you click on my name - Gardenweb will give an option to send an email. Good Luck and so far do not do anything. Irina...See MoreJust Started(Sydney)
