Final Decisions - Lighting and Countertop - "Spa-Like" or "Dreary"?
Comments (4)Thanks for your thoughts - yes, we're doing the same grey for the shower/bath walls and floor (though a 3" mosaic of the same tile for the shower floor). We do like the deco tile, but it's a bit pricey, so we don't want to go crazy with it. The wood (walnut veneer) is for the vanity - the photo shows some of the different stains we've been playing with, but we're looking at the center stain, which is essentially a natural walnut color. The sidelights actually are a 2"x18" square tube with a 4"square center mount. So they're pretty narrow. But they theoretically throw off 900 lumens each (will have dimmers). Two cans above and behind, along with the Panasonic LED Fan/Light, should be enough. I'm thinking of having the electrician run another wire up on the far end of the room that could be used to power any additional lighting in case we felt it necessary, via a soffit. Also, there is a pretty good sized window over the tub itself, which should bring in some light - although, we're pretty much in the woods facing north on that side of the house, so the light will typically be subtle. But there will be some natural light. I've thought about the idea of going white, but it feels like it might hide things like the sinks, and be too much of a contrast with the rest of the room. Is it too odd to use one color for the vanity top, and a different color for the shower bench surface, beyond the cost of finding a different material? I've been thinking now of trying to use more of the ($) deco tile to highlight some space, such as the right hand side of the vanity, but I don't know.... This is somewhat outside of my normal color palette - I typically go beige/"greige", which we mostly did in the Kitchen a couple of years ago, but DH really wanted to go with a grey for the MB. Fortunately, this grey does have some bits of brown in it, so we can make it work with the wood vanity, but I'm not as confident about what works. I really appreciate any interesting ideas that might liven it up (in a subtle way...) Thanks!...See MoreWork office- need design help on new space!
Comments (16)Blue and Teal go together and work well with earth tones. The closeup of the carpet shows threads of blue and teal so of course! There are many shades of teal, so I agree, get your furnishings and decor first, then pick a wall color that goes with them and the carpet....See MoreHome Office trying to fit in sleeping space(s)
Comments (13)the people could be any age - we're a large family with lots of family from out of town passing by. i'm looking to accomodate two adults if possible, knowing that kids are easy and can put them anywhere. yes, there's a bathroom across this room. good idea about Air BnB but we're doing this room for an office anyway, so trying to make the most of it by also fitting in some sleeping...See Morehelp me bring some LIFE into this dark, dreary kitchen
Comments (13)place the sink on the right side of 64 in window.....if you consider half the width of window...then you have approx 32 inches on the right side ...... fine for a 33 in sink base and a 30 in sink. Then place fridge to left of the window. Then park a long farmhouse table over on the right wall instead of fridge along there. You dont want the table like that in the middle. You could find a round pedestal table [always better] for lower right once the fridge and cabinets are out of there. You can probably tuck a tall pantry cabinet in the corner behind that hinged door that leads out especially if you get a round pedestal table.....vertical storage can be any depth so you can go right up into that corner behind the door and it wont hit it. As far as the diagonal cabinet in the upper left corner of your space......people usually prefer to stick w a corner 90 degree cabinet......the storage inside those is pretty good with gizmos that swing out 90 degree corner utilization: people dont always center the sink under a window.....in the pic shown, they wanted to make room for the dishwasher .....in your case, getting the fridge over to that side on the left would be my preference. shift the sink to the right half of the window. then you can get more from a seating situation.....choose from various table shapes....See Morenjmomma
