What is on your wish list for 2012?
Comments (35)"The property is right outside of the city limits. Forest land takes clearing. The deal would be to rent the house to have it keep costs down" Noogy, Plan on spending more than you planned on. I'm trying to do the same thing you want to do. The good news is, it doesn't cost that much to clear land. A big dozer can do a lot of work in a short amount of time. Up til now I've just grown fruit trees in my backyard but this summer my wife and I bought some land to try to start a larger orchard. The land didn't have to be cleared, but did have to be terraced (which takes a whole lot more equipment hours). There is still a never ending list of things to do and I guess my wish list would be to somehow get those things done. Here's a couple pics my daughter took today. Terraces to plant peach trees. Picture of me on a road grader I bought to do the terrace work. The whole endeavor has been tough, too much to mention. The first day I unloaded the grader I ran over a pile of boards with nails someone had dumped in the weeds. Flats cost $160 a piece to fix, and I had two. There's been a lot of things like that....See MoreHow long is your wish list?
Comments (7)My wish list is two pages, single spaced, small font!!! but my it does change and at times when I look at it, I think why did I want that one!!! It is a good feeling to cross one off though when I get it LOL. this forum is the major contributor to my wish list. but garden visits don't help either. So then I have to go back to the list and make another list, like my 'really want' list, then the wish list. My really want list is the two pager and there are about 100 on it, but I only have room for about 8 more in my yard!!! cindy...See MoreNow, you're done-what do you wish you had known while planning?
Comments (68)My opinion on pot fillers. If the pot is too heavy to carry to the stove when the water is cold, I sure don't want to carry it to the sink when the water is boiling. For the effort/cost I don't need one. YMMV, though. I wish I had run my layout by gardenweb members for feedback. I wish I would have thought about a pull out cutting board. I haven't had one for about 30 years and had adapted. Would really like to have one again. The matt white Formica shows every speck of everything! Good, because I can wipe it off right away. Bad because if I haven't wiped it off right away everyone can see it. I live on a gravel road. I rarely use my a/c. Windows are open all the time. The FX stuff I originally planned might have been a better choice. Maybe next time. I do like the look of the white, though. I really hate my upper diagonals but I also hate the blind corner cabs. The more complicated pull down/out doesn't appeal to me. Problem still not solved. I don't like what I have but I don't like the other choices. I thought and thought about this and only came up with the three "I wishes", so all in all, my kitchen turned out pretty good. I am more than delighted to have the peninsula gone and every time I think about my new kitchen I suspect my face has the orgasm expression....See MoreWhat do you wish you had in your temporary kitchen?
Comments (33)I had a small utility room sink -- I think it's 5 or 6 inches deep, but it allowed us to wash most of the essentials, so we didn't have to do much in the bathtub. One of the things I did to minimize the big and messy things that would have to be cleaned was to get some corckpot liners (mixed feelings about whether that was worthwhile) and to precook some taco meat, sloppy joes, plain ground beef, some Italian sausage and I think we had some cubeed chicken or turkey -- all in zip bags inthe freezer. That really helped minimize greasy cleanups and large pan washing. I also made some cookie dough and had that inthe freezer -- I enjoyed baking a few cookies when the guys got home frmo school and felt like it helped them feel less like we were roughing it. For cooking meals, we did have a grill, camping stove, a turkey fryer that we cooked pasta in, a micro, crockpot and a toaster oven. The small toaster oven was the one thing I bought to help us get through, and it was worth it. Do keep a measuring cup and spoons out, as well as the basic utensils, a can opener, bottle opener and/or wine cork and a cutting board. Things like a real coffee mug, wine glasses or even a few plates or real flatware -- depending on your needs. Don't forget pet dishes....See Moregardengal48 (PNW Z8/9)
