Are these insects on these roses?

I bought my wife 2 dozen "premium" roses for our anniversary on Tuesday, and they came with these little black dots all over some of the smaller green leaves. They look like some kind of insect egg maybe. Some of the rose petals look kind of wilted too. I'm not particularly happy about this. Can anyone tell me what these black dots are?

Looks more like the underside of a peice of a fern leaf. Those emit fern spores, how fern reproduce.

Yeah i don't know what greens were mixed into it but it's not just the rose stems and leaves. There are spiney green leaves that kind of look like ferns i guess. Never seen any black dots like this on a fern before though; however I'm not much of an expert lol

I have no idea what they are either, but I swear I've seen them here also. They look like the critters that I'm apt to inhale when I sniff a bloom before looking for occupants first.

It was a interesting study from India using 100% and a50% and 25% solution on roses to take care of the aphids thrips and mites. It is the bacteria in the cows milk that had the effect. Greenhearted: Those traps sold at store do work but only if you put it FAR AWAY from your roses. I put it at the end of my garden, FAR AWAY from my roses & worked great. This year there are too many birds which eat them, so I saw less than 7, as of today, July 18. In bad years, I set my trap FAR AWAY, it attracted JB .. at least 50 beetles were still alive when I dumped from the trap, so I stomped on them with my feet and let the birds have a feast.

One of the short-horned / slant-faced grasshoppers, these include "toothpick" grasshoppers. I'm still narrowing this ID down. http://bugguide.net/node/view/8013/bgimage ^Cattail Toothpick Grasshopper linked to above is similar and widespread http://www.jeffpippen.com/naturephotos/grasshoppers.htm ^link shows the Cattail grasshopper complete with the same wing-tip patterning, and is from the Carolinas (top 3 images). Just Google "underside fern leaf" and see if you think it could be a match.

Yeah i think that's what it is. The photos online don't exactly match the size and shape, but the order and structure is really what gives it away

When you put flowers in a vase of water, you need to strip off all the lowest leaves so that none are underwater. They begin to decompose and foul the water. Also the flower stems need a fresh diagonal cut at the bottom in case the original cut has callused over.
