Comments (32)"I did not waste my money on mail order junk..." "It may be fine out in the country, and that's all well and good for those of you who can have them ... you can certainly have more greenhouse space for less money than I can ... but in some settings, frankly, it just doesn't fly." Judgmental! Lets look at post from others that own the HFGH. ________________________________________________- CONCERNING HFGH PARTS: "gardenerwantabe (My Page) on Fri, Sep 22, 06 at 8:45 Yea the price is what suckered me into buying them. Now I get to throw away these worthless P.O.S. and buy some good ones." _______________________________________________ CONCERNING MODIFICATIONS TO HFGH: "by gardenerwantabe (My Page) on Fri, Sep 22, 06 at 18:58 Molly Did you read the posts on this forum about the modifications that is required to make the 10x12 HFGH survive in a thunderstorm. If you don't do these mods you will lose it." ___________________________________________________ LET"S LOOK A LITTLE CLOSER AT JUDGEMENTAL SHALL WE: "by gardenerwantabe (My Page) on Sun, Sep 24, 06 at 17:10 I hate to bust your bubble but a hoop house covered with the plastic is nowhere near as strong or durable as polycarbonate. The wind will tear it and the sun will destroy it in two or three years. Replacing the plastic film is a never ending job and you will soon spend more than what it would have cost to buy a GH with polycarbonate panels. All you got to do to convince yourself of this is look at the warranty on both types." ________________________________________________ AND: "by gardenerwantabe (My Page) on Mon, Sep 25, 06 at 13:44 Please share with us where you bought this miracle plastic. What is the name of the manufacture. I'm sure people would like to know where they can find a plastic that will last 4 times longer than anything else on the market." __________________________________________________ A beautiful thing that requires so much modification to keep it intact, and parts that are (to borrow a quote from another post) "POS" are not only in my opinion junk, the Wall Street Journal thinks so also. You will find the link to their story in a earlier post above. Everyone should read it. Yes, some would not find a hoophouse an aesthetic contribution, but many do. They are also featured on television home improvement shows in surburan settings in back yards of 200,000.00 homes, and look quite good there. LASTLY LETS LOOK CLOSER AT AN EARLIER POST OF MINE: "Best of luck to you. Bottom line is enjoying our greenhouses, isn't that right." This forum should be named "SUPPORT YOUR HFGH" Postive, comments welcome: Negetive, comments go elsewhere. WILL DO SO GLADLY...See MoreI just took these pictures today in my mom garden
Comments (19)Wow - that white one is stunning! Very spectacular. I also agree that the red and white striped one is xjohnsonii. Looks just like mine. It should be very fragrant. Chuck, the true johnsonii is valuable, mostly because they almost never set seed, so the only way to get them is by getting offsets. Your image is too blurry for me to see properly. But I'm sure you could find a great trade. The plant trade forum on gardenweb is great - just post what you have and what you are looking for. Or I'm sure you could sell on ebay. Thanks for sharing the beautiful pictures - I love seeing garden heirlooms!...See MoreHelp! Neighbors cut down trees and took my shade!
Comments (2)That's a beautiful picture, sdogwood. I think your problem is one that will be repeated a lot. People are cutting down a lot of trees in fear of hurricane damage, and I guess I don't blame them, but I sure don't want to part with mine. An arbor would be a good idea, and plant some smaller trees if you have room. I'm thinking a cost/benefit analysis would be a good idea; we've saved I have no idea how many hundreds of dollars on air conditioning because of trees we planted, and one formerly small live oak we left. I guess a smart thing to have done would have been to estimate the money we saved and put it in a savings account to pay damage! Better than the way some insurance companies seem to be paying off. And it seems to me that if global warming is a fact, and I believe it is, the more trees and other plants we plant the more possible it would be to keep it from tipping over to really terrifying potentials. So plant! (As if we needed an excuse!)...See MoreIt took just one load w/ Charlie's
Comments (17)Has anyone tried doing a load with Dr. Bronner's? DESCRIPTION: Sal Suds is a balanced formulation of naturally derived surfactants with pure fir and spruce essential oils: it cleans and rinses with exceptional power yet is mild and gentle on the skin. Sal Suds is not soap-based and is formulated especially for all-purpose hard-surface cleaning. Available in 32 oz. bottle. Perfect for general household cleaning: dishes floors laundry etc. Equally effective in hard or soft water rinsing freely hot or cold. Concentrated and self-preserving: no hidden preservatives or ingredients. No synthetic dyes or fragrances: all ingredients fully disclosed and described. Biodegrades rapidly after doing its job. Pure high-quality fir and spruce essential oils: no cheap harsh pine stump oil. No animal testing: Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics certified. INGREDIENTS: Water, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Coco-Betaine, Lauryl Glucoside, Fir Needle Oil, Spruce Oil Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS): This surfactant cuts grease and dirt, generates copious suds, and biodegrades quickly and completely. SLS is made by combining a sulfate group with lauryl alcohol from coconut oil, then attaching sodium. If improperly formulated, SLS can irritate skin, but our superb formula uses coco-betaine and lauryl glucoside to counter this. Coco-Betaine: Mild and easily biodegradable, coco-betaine is formed by combining coconut fatty acids with betaine (a nature-identical synthetic so-named because it was first discovered in sugar beets). This foam-boosting cleansing agent buffers irritation caused by SLS. Lauryl Glucoside: This powerful grease-cutting surfactant is especially mild and quickly biodegradable, and is made by combining glucose from corn with fatty alcohols from coconut and palm kernel oils. Lauryl glucoside not only works with SLS to cut dirt and oily soils with exceptional ease, but also combines with coco-betaine to give Sal Suds smooth mildness. Fir Needle Oil & Spruce Oil: Pure essential oils from fir and spruce give Sal Suds its wonderful aroma. Most other cleansers use synthetic fragrances or cheap harsh pine stump oil.
