What's your favourite single? Pictures, please!
Comments (42)That Altissimo is gorgeous isn't it?... and I like Happenstance too... ..my favourite singles would be Mutabilis, Mrs Oakley Fisher and Complicata, I've also grown Fruhlingsmorgen and Marguerite Hilling as well as Nevada and moyesii 'Geranium'.... all lovely in their own ways... but some just a bit too big for me now in this smaller garden. ..so here is the less than sumptuous 'Kew Gardens'... nothing special about it... perhaps rather bland...but it is totally thornless and permanently flowering... my plant still has masses of buds in mid December after some frost... I grow it with Eugenia 'Etna Fire' as the foliage lights it up a bit.....See MoreFavourite rose breeder
Comments (23)Legrice for his sheer audacity and ingenuity with colourwork., Lens .....the nearest breeding work to the species types Loving Hybrid Musks of all types,,,,,but mostly still having an enduring love affair with the species. Kordes roses are always vigorous and healthy....but a tad dull apart from the great Fruhling series. I love older Harkness roses for the innovative breeding....but unfortunately, they do need spray regimes. A midland trio of breeders - Chris Warner, Peter James and Frank Cowlishaw - some outstanding roses coming from this stable (Blue for You, Odyssey, Purple Skyliner, Bright as a Button, Eyes for You, Rhapsody in Blue Across the pond - I love some of the little Moore roses (Little Buckaroo, Mr.Bluebird) and am very interested in the (wide) range of Barden roses - but sadly, unavailable here. Finally, Pirjo Rautio has reinvigorated spinossissimas while Svedja has done the same with rugosas. However, if I could only choose one, it would have to be those grown by birds and small mammals - nothing to beat the wild roses....See MoreFavourite groupings
Comments (20)Wonderful groupings! Some great ideas for me to get going and plant, instead of simply placing them in their nursery pots all over the new garden :) I absolutely love the woodland scenes, the hostas look really natural and they standout amongst the other shade plants. The different elevations are very good, too. My new front bed slopes down towards the road and there is a 3' retaining wall along the front - it is owned by the city and it is ugly :( Initially I thought small ones in the front, however; with the slope I can put large ones in the front that can overhang the wall a little bit. The smaller ones would still be seen about halfway up. I have field rocks in my garden that I have used as walls but I think I need more, lots more. Using rocks, there are so many more opportunities for displaying different plants in various places. I have all of the plants listed here except for a couple of the hostas. I have several different types of ferns and I was wondering how to best display them? The ghost fern with the blue hosta looks great. funinthesun - you don't need to resist - post all that ya got! I am loving all of the photos. Nothing quite like a 'visual'. Thanks everyone....See MoreLooking for 3 minis for this planter I made: suggestions?
Comments (12)Hands Up at the frog end to represent rushes, Munchkin Fire, or Fairy Dust for some gold, then maybe a plain green like venusta or Baby Bunting, but I think BME, or Karin's Baby Blue Eyes would look great with the first two I mentioned. Beautiful job on the planter! Yes, please post pics when done planting!...See Morejoeywyomingzone4
