Help with transplant shock on bombshell hydrangeas in mass

We bought and planted older bombshell hydrangeas about 12 days ago. Since then they have started to brown (crisp) and wilt despite getting watered. I added more mulch to help retain water (left 2 inches away from the base stem) but one keeps looking worse. I read that I should keep them in full shade at this point. They get about 6 hours sun right now. We are in western Massachusetts and the temperature does fluctuate since its starting to be fall. I just added a little organic compost to the original soil when I first planted them since I know their roots burn easy. Not sure if I should add any food? The original soil is a heavier soil, almost clay. The younger summer crush hydrangeas are doing okay. Any suggestions welcomed!
