This is close to my laundry room configuration as well, except I have cabinets over the sink and nothing over the W/D. This picture makes me think....I have been looking for a new W/D but everything is so deep, and I thought sticks out into the room too far and I didn't want my window to be half-blocked. But that's how this set up is and it doesn't look that bad, I guess you get used to it. Only thing you can't tell from the photo is how wide the room is....mine is very narrow since I had built in laundry basket shelves/cubbies/coat hangers/pantry built into the opposite wall. I ordered my doors from CabinetNow. if you know a contractor, Decorative Specialties sells door as well. I used CabinetNow as the lead time to get the door was 5-7 business days and their selection almost looked identical to Decorative's selection. I measured multiple times to make sure i had everything set. i entered all on line. We got their Manhattan doors in paint grade maple. They have a solid feel. I also ordered the doors predrilled for euro hinges. i would use them again.

Wonderful! You brought up some important points eam44. I also realize now that I was not comparing apples to apples. I thought both doors were solid but the Barker doors are veneer. I went back and repriced the solid doors on Barker's website and the pricing is almost the same. Horizon still has some advantages with the solid doors however. They give you a choice of horizontal or vertical grain pattern. I'm till not sure which I prefer. They also put two narrow strips of wood across on the inside of the door to prevent warping which I hear could be a problem with solid slab doors. Barker does have one advantage over Horizon. They will finish the doors with a clear sealer whereas Horizon did not give that option for that particular door (or wood, not sure which.) I wonder if Barker would add the stabilizing strips if I requested it. Rebunky that is a beautiful kitchen indeed. Thanks for sharing : )

Thank you for taking a look. I have included my entire plan. To answer your questions: First, do you have a fully measured layout of the Kitchen and Dining space for us to see? One that has each door/doorway/window/wall measured and labeled as well as the distances b/w each door/doorway/window/wall? From what I think I see, your architect may be right - and not just the issue with blocking the doorway, I don't know if you have room b/w the island and table. (It would be helpful if you had the same for the Living Room area as well.) **I don't have complete information. I need to measure. Ceiling to Floor height is 12'. ** What can/cannot be changed? Can rooms be switched? Can doors be moved? Walls? You appear to have a very large Living Room... **Rooms can switch. The idea was an open living/dining/kitchen area. We live in the city, so the space is not large.
