I would get the seedlings outside in the real sun as quickly as possible, but during the coolest part of the day and under the shade cloth. You could even put a cardboard box over them, with the top flaps partly open to allow the light in, but indirectly. Make sure they have plenty of water and aren't allowed to dry out. Gradually increase the time they are out over about a week. You may need to keep the shade cloth up until cooler weather finally arrives. Martha

Hi Chefschipull, In my hydroponics system, which uses a sand medium, I sometimes plant the seeds directly into the sand. Other times, I either grow the seeds in punnets with seed raising mix or buy them grown in a similar fashion. If you want to keep your hydroponic system clean, all of the seed raising mix must be rinsed off the roots before putting into your system ... whether you are using a growing medium or not. To rinse them, just jiggle then up and down in a bowl of clean water ... like a tea bag, until all of the soil is removed. Of course, you can plant them out straight from the punnet, but it will dirty up your medium and/or your recirculating nutrient solution. So your best method by far is to grow your own or buy them in punnets, and rinse the roots well before putting them into your hydroponic garden. Just in case you haven't read this elsewhere - when you pot them up, bury them deep (almost up to the lowest set of leaves, you can even snip off the lower leaves if you have a lot of leaves and then bury to the lowest set you leave (no pun intended)). How many leaves do they have? 15"? WOW! When did you start them? I would think it's partially stretching for light, and partially that starter fertilizer. Do you have any grow lights? Putting the repotted plants under artificial light will help. Putting a fan on will strengthen the stems. What zone are you in? Can you start putting them outside for part of the day (almost like hardening them off)?

So I've been reading different info online. I currently use one blue (cool) and one red (warm) T5 CFLs to start seedlings indoors... it has worked okay... but some things I've been reading suggest using two cool bulbs since that's the better light... as opposed to the red spectrum(?). Should I switch over to two blues on each shoplight instead? Thanks!
