What to do with this weeping willow
Comments (12)get a pic of the trunk.. and a leaf.. looks like cherry to me also .. pinky white flowers in spring???? if so.. it was grafted onto a 4 to 6 foot standard.. at the top ... you know the weeping part.. the upward part.. is a sucker from the standard ... it will never weep ... get rid of it.. its planted too close to the house.. even for the weeper ... plant a new one out at about the rock line.. and while you are removing things.. get rid of that burning bush.. which is invasive in many areas.. and again.. planted too close to the house ... good luck!!! ken...See MoreWeeping larch - how to stake?
Comments (13)lots of pix .... beware ... here is art defined ... first.. let me disabuse you of ever having a straight leader ..... here i have painted on an idea of what the trunk on this one looks like ... the top of the poles is about 12 feet ... i am getting a bit carried away here... why not ... ignore the slip and slide .. also note that there are two weepers sold under the name larix xxx pendula ... there is Larix decidua 'Pendula' and Larix kaempferi 'Pendula' .. with good pix Resin can ID yours for you ... though it really doesnt make a difference ... the only reason i noticed .... is i realized that my two plants were different.. doing different things at different times .... go figure on that ... though it is basically inperceivable to most people .. note the posts.. and the big rope ... clothes line actually .. i like it big.. because it calls me to it.. i tighen and loosen them often .... and big rope is easy to untie and retie ... look close and see the last tie... a piece of nylons way near the tip ... about 3 inches from the top of LAST years growth .. i do NOT tie this years growth EVER ... you will break it .... and that is why the trunk bends back and forth over time ... BTW .. this tree is extremely pliable .... you can bend old growth.. within reason rather easily .. and you can bend it a bit.. then wait a few weeks and bend a bit more.. etc .. no one says it HAS TO BE bent all at once ... or you can let one go down.. and start another up ... as i said.. this is a 10 year project.. you will end up with something so UNIQUE .. that garden friends will drool ... i have seen some one basically do what i am doing.. about 8 feet apart ... and then connect the two poles.. and train it into an arc ... lol .. now that is getting carried away ... the rest are extra pix for you to study .. and get some ideas about what to do ... good luck ken...See MoreHELP! Weeping Acacia is dying
Comments (15)It's probably a combination of all. My soil is very sandy and is probably not nourishing the tree, especially with alkaline, fewer roots and fill dirt choking it to death. I've been researching like mad and chlorosis seems like it fits the symptoms. In my case the below description of magnesium and zinc deficiency is very accurate. Right now only the very tips of the outer most leaves haven't turned brown. I'm watering morning and night. Effects Leaf chlorosis is due to a lack of chlorophyll and occurs for many reasons, including high pH levels in the soil. The leaves turn yellow because the plant is unable to obtain needed nutrients. Iron is the nutrient most typically unavailable, although magnesium and zinc deficiencies also occur. Iron deficiencies cause young, outer leaves on trees to yellow first. Magnesium and zinc deficiencies cause older, inner leaves to yellow. High water salinity is also often associated with alkaline soils and causes salts to build up in the soil. The effects of high salinity on plants include stunted growth and wilting. Comments (19)Yes pretty much everything requires summer irrigation - I mostly use drip. Many pines do well here, also Cedrus are naturals, many Cupressus, Juniperus, etc, too. And I do more envelope-pushing with Agathis and Podocarpus! I love the soft/spiky thing, too, but it does upset some people. However, if you walk in a pine forest in Mexico, there are Agaves and Yuccas all over, so it's found in nature, too....See MoreHU-413767407
