Is the placement of this box awkward?

Hi all! we just re-did this section of our house and made a garden box here with some old wood we had. Is the placement awkward right behind the other box? If not, what should we plant in it? different flowers? A large bush? Several smaller bushes? Any help will be SO appreciated!

Waaay too much going on there with different materials and patterns--the different siding materials (especially the multi-colored siding), the large wood timbers making boxes, the rocks, the pebbles. If you are going to keep the siding, everything else needs to be very, very simple, perhaps one groundcover for the entire area. Even if you simplify the siding, the different boxes and white rocks are not helpful.

get rid of plastic ...

is the rock a driveway ...might need a pic from a bit further back.. to understand more of whats going on

Have you tried the bed on the facing wall? (I always like to see the headboard when walking into a room.) Wouldn't the vanity make sense in front of the window to take advantage of daylight? (Or does it have too large a mirror above it?) Then you can place the dresser on the diagonal wall and the Vittsjo shelves and standing mirror near the door. If the standing mirror just doesn't work anywhere, consider selling it and using a wall-mounted one on your entry or closet door. Alternatively, with the bed on the opposite wall, you could place the dresser where the bed is now (at the foot of the bed, iow) and the vanity where the dresser is now. Do you really need the glass shelves in the bedroom? Could they go anywhere else in your place? The unit won't look strange by itself if you consider the whole wall as a vignette and place art on it accordingly.

Here is a picture of our room as we have it laid out. You can see the large ottoman that we use. It is great for toys, blankets, pillows and just about anything. Below you will also see the 3D rendition of your formal dining room converted to a TV room. Also, this is suggested because having a formal dining area so disjointed from the kitchen area often means that it is seldom used. I know because we used to have a formal dining room like that. We used it maybe 2 or 3 times a year. Once we converted the room it is now used everyday. Converting the front room is the surprise. So here goes: Here is the copy of the 3D floor plan copied from your blueprint. In this you will see that the currant family room has been converted to an open and easily accessible gathering place and the formal dining area is spiffed up for both everyday use, gettogethers, and holidays. More 3D pictures below: You will find the following in the layouts below: Three 51 inch love seats. I would stick with the 51 inch love seat because it keeps the room open and easier to move in and out of. If you get larger ones it starts to make the room feel smaller and is harder to move in and around. Two couch side tables Two floor lamps One ottoman with reversible trays that when turned over become seat cushions and have storage beneath them. One basket with extra pillows and blankets or can be used for toys, games and so on. One entry table with one table lamp on it. This table can be used for additional storage in the drawer. There is a box underneath for additional storage. One large wall mirror to add more reflective light and become a faux window on that wall. The dining area speaks for itself. One nice large framed picture over the fireplace. Please know that the style and colors are not in anyway suggestions it is just for furniture placement and suggestions only. The bed looks like it would fit between the windows. Some overlap is fine. I don't like the idea of blocking a window to block the view....your blinds block the view. Move the dresser to the opposite wall. The curtains could be higher. You could use nightstands with table lamps on each side of the bed. The lamps would look nice in front of the windows. I see you have one nightstand, the other one does not need to match but the lamps should match if possible. Artwork somewhere would be nice.

The landscape rock on the ground is supposed to all be the same and we've had fun with the rock supplier about it. they swear it's the same rock as the front yard but it needs to be "rinsed off" by the rain to reach the correct color. But I still don't think it's the same rock. I'm bummed but really nothing we can do about it at this point because we're not pulling the rock out and putting a different rock, so the rock stays. The siding is also staying. I'm asking about the garden box with the weed barrier showing. Thank you for your input! :)

The rock is our front yard and the side of our house. This back side used to be a fenced dog run in our backyard, but a recent storm blew our fence down and we don't have a dog so we decided not to replace that portion of the fence. I will try to post a picture of the house from further back later today. Thank you!

The timbers don't go with the rocks visually. And are functionally superfluous, because there is no raised soil present for them to be containing. Also it looks like they are creosoted, which means they are going to stink all of the time. And are toxic (and messy) to the touch, leach toxins into the soil.

I agree that there’s a lot going on here. And I can’t understand your original question about “is the placement of this box awkward by this other box?” because there are lots of boxes in your picture and I’m not sure which one you are talking about. All I know is, yes, it’s all awkward because there are too many boxes, seemingly for no reason. You have lots of railroad ties and just want to use them? I wouldn’t. They are dirty, stinky, and just plain unattractive.

Creosote contains 200 known toxic compounds, with there being an implication that there are ones present that aren't known about.
