I grow Penstemon pinifolius 'Mersea Yellow' which stays well below a foot for me. There are delosperma which bloom yellow. Both these will do well with less water than many perennials. There are a bunch of columbine in yellow shades, and though many will be a bit taller, they are airy enough so that this may not be a problem since the foliage stays under a foot. There are several kinds of Sedum with yellow blossoms or you could try Sedum rupestre âÂÂAngelinaâ which has bright yellow green foliage in warm weather and picks up shades of orange in cold weather. Doronicum orientale Little Leo is about 1'x1' and has bright yellow daisies. A couple of other plants with daisy-like flowers include some of the shorter coreopsis such as some of the cultivars of lance leaf coreopsis (they don't all spread like the threadleaf coreopsis) and yellow gaillardias such as golden goblin. There are some shorter daylily cultivars that might fit the bill. I have one that is a yellow repeat bloomer that I don't think gets over 12 inches. It hasn't spread much either. There are several types of shorter bulbs with yellow flowers if you want the yellow season to start earlier, including crocus, danford iris, some of the shorter daffodils, and Eranthis aka winter aconite.

MANY of these wonderful things have fallen from commerce here with the closure of the specialty nurseries. I'd sought Hugonis flore plena for the past two years. Every garden which grew it, lost it. Vintage supposedly had a mother plant and I offered to buy a sucker from it if they had one, but there was too much going on to hear back. It took two years, but there are buds of flore plena in a whip out front now. Originally, Xanthina was a double flower with the single version identified as Xanthina normalis or spontanea. I contacted every source asking about the petal count of their stock. All sources responded theirs were all single. Because the double form resulted from seed, I obtained imported Xanthina seed. I hope at least one of the seedlings out back flowers double. These things are worth growing, but most don't sell in sufficient quantities for most vendors to stock. Each is going to determine which sells best and is easiest for them to produce, then offer that one type. Good luck! I know what it's like to want something you just can't find. Kim

Ah! Golden Celebration was first on my list! That makes sense. I've looked through the David Austin roses before, but I know nothing at all - now that I have a bit more understanding (as it's similar to the yellow rose) I'll be able to narrow my focus. Queen Elizabeth doesn't seem to fit. It's very pink. This rose (which, I know, I have no good pictures of) is closer to David Austin's Valentine Heart for colour and shape.
