The flowers visible rule out rosemary. But other than that, I can't help. I've never seen this one before and I have seen a lot of herbs. It isn't any of the common herb plants - that I'm sure of. Perhaps something indigenous to Australia? FataMorgana

Any chance we could see the flower or plant habit? It's probably going to be difficult to ID from cut material. HTH Chris

Rootbeer Leaf - Piper auritum Though commonly used south of the border I have read that it has compounds that should not be consumed in large quantities. I grow it but I don't eat it. Its a relative of the plant that gives us peppercorns for black pepper.

Maufie, just be sure to try just a little bit at a time like maybe 1mmx1mm piece and wait a few hours or a day to see if you have any reactions to it (vomiting, diarrhea, hallucinations, anaphylaxis, etc). Then try a little bit bigger piece each time, waiting in between each time you increase the amount you try. This is a good rule to follow anytime you try something that you haven't tried before. It will probably be fine, but each person reacts differently to different plant compounds.
