Any tips for washing windows inside when they don't open well?
Comments (2)I know what you are going through. I have some old storm windows that cannot be removed, and I can't access the top sash for cleaning. I have found no way to clean them. I'm going to be removing them next spring. If your problem is caused by interior windows that don't open well, there are ways to repair them. I have gotten a lot of good advice on the Old House forum. There is a tool called a window zipper that will help cut through layers of dried paint....See MoreDo you smell the garbage when you open the drawer above the trash
Comments (18)It does depend on how diligent you are. DS, a bachelor, lives in a condo with the pull out trash and knives in the drawer above. On a recent visit I opened the drawer to get a knife and almost fell over from the smell. He had shrimp for dinner the day before, put the shells in the trash and forgot to take out the trash when he left for work the next morning. Everyone on this forum sounds very careful either about what they put in the trash or making sure it goes out. I guess the moral of the story is to know your own habits....See MoreDo you think we get more sensitive to smells as we age?
Comments (18)Nothing wrong with the smell of bacon IMO! I could handle bacon cologne & perfume. Far better than that jug perfume in which old women insist on marinating themselves. Guess they're trying to cover up the "old people" smell. I have avoided scented detergents for a long time and haven't used fabric softener for 10 years or more. I don't like my clothes to smell. When they smell, it tells me to wash them. And the detergent aisles make me cough. AFAIC they should have the detergent and sell the little bottles of stench you can add to it. But if you've ever been around old people, there's a lot of them who can't have a sense of smell. And IMO lilacs should be outlawed as a noxious weed. It's certainly an obnoxious weed. That is probably the worst stench there is....See MoreBedroom doors partially block window when open
Comments (12)Can you move each door just enough away so that door fully open would be against the wall into the corner? My daughters room is similar to the bedroom on the left and we ended up moving the door close to the railing so we could open the door fully and not see it from the window. Based on the drawing you show it looks like you could move the doors a foot or so further away from the corner. In my office, which is a floor below my daughters room I had the exact same issue. I knew that door would probably remain open most of the time so I ended up changing the swing of the door the opposite way. Also being on the 1st floor I knew a door against that window would be very visible, not so much a floor up. It is annoying like that if you would be opening and closing the door to enter and leave, but since it's an office it's fine as I may close that door maybe once a week at most....See MoreMelanie Radkiewicz
