Fisher Paykel GWL10US Won't turn on
Comments (1)GWL10 uses the pump as part of the main power circuit. If the pump goes dead, the machine will also be dead. The pump should read ~33 ohms at 68°F ambient temp, a couple/few ohms higher at higher temps or lower at lower temps. You need to examine the pump for signs of leaking. If the windings are corroded/discolored from water damage, then the pump can go to high resistance and kill the controller board. Hopefully it isn't, but unfortunately you won't know if that's the case until you replace the pump and the machine is still dead. The pump is removable without tools. Disconnect the wires. Locate the plastic clip on the mounting plate. Hold the clip released and rotate the pump body counterclockwise, it drops off the plate. You can get parts at www.SearsPartsDirect.com. Be sure you get the correct pump which is unique to GWL10. Other models use a different pump. I can send GWL10 service manuals, but you don't have an e-mail address enabled on your GardenWeb profile....See Morefisher paykel won't fill
Comments (17)Electrical problems (something zapping the board) is not the same as a physical problem (diverter clogged with debris). The only way to know if the pump is within spec on electrical characteristics is by checking it with a meter. Having proper tools when electronics is involved is part-and-parcel of working on the machine. Alternatively, you can try running it on a test electric cord (CAREFUL!) to see it runs OK for a while or overheats and shuts off. The pump motor windings should be a reddish/copper color. Take the plastic cover off, is there any charring/discoloration evident? A burned odor to it? An IWL16 shouldn't be old enough to have bad bearings, but I suppose anything can happen. Rotating the basket by hand should reveal if there's any undue physical resistance or jamming. There'll be a slight and rapid cogging feel when the machine is plugged in (even if turned off) from the magnets in the motor but of course it shouldn't bind. Unplug the machine and spin the basket VERY slowly, it'll turn freely ... spin it FASTER and the magnets will grab as a brake. You can also remove the SmartDrive rotor to examine the motor windings for obvious damage. Unscrew the large spiral nut, the rotor will back itself off the shaft and stator. The magnets are STRONG so keep stray metal objects away from it, and be careful when setting the rotor back in place to not pinch a finger....See MoreFisher & Paykel GWL 10 washer won't agitate
Comments (5)The agitator is bolted directly to the drive shaft and turns as per the motor's rotation (or oscillation). The agitator is always driven by the motor's rotation, whether during agitation or spin. The inner basket sits atop a clutch cog under the agitator. When the tub fills with water, air caught under the basket base causes it to float upward slightly and disengage from the cog so the agitator can oscillate separately (the basket free-spins during agitation). The basket settles back down on the drive cog for spin when the water drains. Turning the agitator by hand when the machine is empty of water should rotate the basket with it. Removing the agitator -- Take off the softener dispenser/cap at the top. Reach down inside and unscrew the hold-down nut. The agitator then lifts up and out (unless it's stuck). Turn it over and examine whether the keyed socket that fits on the shaft is perhaps worn or cracked. Don't overtighten the plastic hold-down nut when replacing the agitator to avoid stripping the threads....See MoreFisher Paykel washer constantly draining
Comments (1)Service documentation advises to test for voltage across the diverter terminals (at the wires connected to it) with the machine off but plugged in to power. Phase 7 (which yours should be), reading of 230v indicates the board is bad. (The documentation for a newer model Phase 9 says 120v.) Reasonably there should be no voltage at the diverter with the machine off (drain mode). Voltage/power energizing the diverter engages it to recirculate mode. The voltage test seems to be inferring that the motor board reverses the diverter function when bad....See Morezneret
