I am looking for help with herbology

I have been trying to make a comprehensive list for myself of herbs, and other plants that would be useful to me.

My question is regarding Althea. Im a little confused with what this is exactly, and google is the root cause of my confusion lol.

So, is every Althea root= Marshmallow root, but not all Marshmallow root= Althea? And just to make it clear, Althea is the same thing as Hibiscus Syriacus, also known as Rose of Sharon? Also, Mallow and Marshmallow root are not the same things, correct? Like I said, Im really confused.

Althaea is the genus. There are between 6 and 10 species in the genus Althaea. One species is Althaea syriacus, Rose of Sharon. The medicinal, and culinary species is Althaea officinalis, aka marshmallow. Plants are classified in this order. Species, then genus, then family, then order. Your marshmallow plant is classified like this. species-officinalis, genus-Althaea, family-Malvaceae, order

It will depend your style as bulky storage hutches have been relegated to a curb, consignment or landfill since the advent of the flat tv. China hutches will have glass. REPLACE the glass with mirror. Presto, no see. Watch the consignment shops. Or find an Amish custom builder online, design it, and have it built. Or design it at a Kitchen cabinet shop , bunching to the width you want in a stain or paint. You aren't going to find it online unless junk, or very pricey.

It’s an affectation from the 90s McMansion era and takes a regal stately home into shopping mall design. From on the back: paint The siding so it blends in. Build decks that bring you down to earth in stages. And again, lots if landscaping to tie the house into the landscape.

They’re both comprised of violet/pink undertones, which is intensified under cool light (ie: daylight) and all but disappears under warm lighting, (ie: warm pot lights). These colours are rooted in a brown base colour that leaves the impression of a warm gray, but typically remaining light and neutral!" There is also Classic Gray – LRV: 74.74, Pale Oak – LRV: 69.89, Dreamy Cloud - LRV:76 meaning it will reflect quite a bit of light back into a room. In an intensely lit room with direct sunlight, it will fade out quite a bit but will regain its colour once the sun shifts.

Hi Sheila, Thank you! I decided to overwinter with lights because they were so small when they arrived, in the past I have lost 50% of the small roses I planted in pots over the winter here. I did propagate 3 roses last fall (took cuttings September 1st) and overwintered in the mud room with lights, they were huge by the time I could plant end of April. I'm hoping to give these guys a chance to develop good root systems before planting in spring due to our shorter growing season. :) Hi Paul, Thank you also! I will look those up. All the plants in the family Malvaceae are referred to as mallows, so marshmallow is a mallow and Rose of Sharon, Hibiscus, Okra, cotton, Abutilon and the weed called velvetleaf are all mallows too. Not every Althaea root is marshmallow. Only the root of Althaea officinalis is marshmallow.

Yao shu kui in Chinese medicine to cool the blood. Might need to be used in a combination/formula with other herbs. It might be mentioned in the materia medica.

Rose of Sharon is Hibiscus syriacus, correctly, not Althaea. Not all Malvaceae are referred to as Mallows although in common parlance you could call them the Mallow Family. For example Linden trees are in that family.

Althaea root refers to Athaea officinalis, Marshmallow. The common name of the whole plant is Marshmallow, not only the root. The officinalis part of the name is a big clue that is has been used herbally for a long time. https://pfaf.org/user/plant.aspx?LatinName=Althaea+officinalis

Yeah, my mistake, floral is correct, and it's Hibiscus syriaca not Althaea syriacus. I think it was called Althaea at one time and it is a synonym. Now is the a fixed number of species that can be called mallows? I don't know where to draw the line, and I thought it was acceptable to refer to everything in Malvaceae as mallows?

Floral, I think that anything in Hibiscus or Malva can be called a mallow. So marsh mallow, which is Althaea officinalis, is not really a mallow?
