Sounds like all good advice here, but I'd like to drop a bit of advice when it comes time to plant your lavender into their permanent places. I've successfully grown the same beautiful lavender plants for the last 10 years in the same place by doing the following: Don't plant in the shade. They absolutely love full sun and thrive in the heat. I live in zone 7 and seldom water them in summer. Just remember they come from the Mediterranean region of the world: Southern France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, etc. Hot, sunny, and dry. Plant in very well-drained soil. My husband put in shovel loads of sand into the lavender bed we made. They absolutely HATE wet clay soil, so amend it if that's what you have. Make sure you buy the type of sand to use with plants! I forget what type of sand its called. Prune them back each spring or you'll have thin, straggly lavender. Cutting them back will encourage really bushy, thick plants that have lots of flower spikes. Heavenly to see and smell! And you can get a second flush of flowers if you cut off all old flower spikes when they're done. Simply cut off the top six or eight inches and you'll get a second bloom! I use sharp hedge shears. Watch for spider mites in the heat of summer. Simple spraying every 10 days works. And last, but not least, they WILL reseed for you. You'll find lots of baby lavender growing around the parent plants when Fall comes around! I grow the variety called Hidcote. Good luck!

and never expect all of many to survive ... expect some ratio of failure ... could you favor us with a pic of the whole .. i have never seen nor heard of the netting ... sounds interesting .. BTW .... dig up one of them.. AND FIND OUT HOW WET OR DRY THE SOIL IS .... and adjust watering accordingly ... if you are just guessing with your watering.. obviously.. you are frustrated because you lack info ... but coming to us for info ... gets you no where.. but more guesses... so all you are left with.. is digging some holes and finding out .. and mind you .. dealing with a hill ...and how water moves across and thru it.. can be divergent in differing spots ... and that may be why.. those struggling.. are not all in one place.. leading you to dig more holes ... you might want to dig out all those struggling.. and set up a nursery bed with some break in the blistering sun ...... and see if you cant rescue them.. by fall ... then.. you have a whole bunch of holes all set for observation ... i SUSPECT ... you have been incredible successful ... perhaps even better than many of us might do ... but are a perfectionist at heart.. and its driving you a bit crazy ... that yoru success is not 100% ... heck.. most gardeners ... dealing with the vagaries of mother nature.. would probably be thrilled.. with a 90% success rate and would just replant the holes in fall [NOT NOW] ... and if that is the case.. the problem is in your head... LOL ... BTW.. in fall ... you can harvest some of the plants on any edge.. and put them into the bare spots... to make the 'look' equal ... and then add replacements at the edge.. or even better.. DIVERSIFY your planting ... good luck pic of the whole.. please ken

Not to derail this tangent on Autocorrect, but... I use voice mail software that transcribes a voice mail to text which it then emails me. Really cool concept. You still usually get the gist of the message, so it is useful. But the results are often funny because of strange punctuation and misunderstood words. For example, on my way home the other day my wife who is an articulate speaker left me a voice mail transcribed: ...please bring home a little of Christy Brendan.... I did not know Christy Brendan and figured I probably would not be able to bring home any part of her, so I listened to the voice mail. That Christy Brendan turned out to be crusty bread. I guess we won't be having artificial intelligence over for dinner anytime soon.

Scarlett, Good move repotting the lavender. A root bound plant is eventually going to cause issues. I imagine that it will take a while for the plant to recover from the root trim you gave it. I would also trim the leaves down to an inch or two above where the wood turns to green. Does your indoor lavender get a lot of sun? It needs to get all day sun, outside is better if possible. A large pot is good for a plant, but you just want to make sure the water drains well, and don't water the pot when it's still moist inside the pot's soil. It's normal for lavender flower stalks to droop during a hot day. This is how they preserve water which would other wise evaporate more quickly. At night the lavender should perk back up.
