Anyone care to give me a pep talk?
Comments (20)My happiest day was when dh installed the sink and dishwasher temporarily. Unfortunately, it looks like it's going to STAY that way. Ugh. Cabinets are still being installed, no counters, no fronts, etc. I can't believe how much cooking I've done with my pantry items on the living room floor, using the dining table as a worktop, etc. There are tools everywhere and some days it's just maddening. Right now I should be cooking and I don't. feel. like. it. Is it happy hour yet? You are in a tough place. You need that kitchen sink and dishwasher! Along the lines of Jadie's comment, I've lit a fire under dh's behind a few times when I have enthusiastically embraced projects that he KNOWS he'd do a better job at than I would. Suddenly he is VERY motivated. You know, it's never a good time to renovate. We've been in completely disarray since March 3. But who's counting?...See MoreCan I cook or will my cabinets need to be replaced? Advice sought
Comments (25)Thanks everyone, for your input. I really really appreciate it. We have a solution that I think makes everyone happy; we will reduce the trim piece on the bottoms of the cabinets so we have 17" between uppers and countertops and for over the stove, they will make a new cabinet and doors so we have use of the full niche and I can stir my chili pot. It means the OTR microwave won't be flush with the bottom of the other cabinets, but I don't think I'll care. Will just have to pick out something cool for the niche backsplash to distract the eye. And I feel really good about not making this young cabinet maker re-do all the uppers. I think he's pretty happy with us, too. Thanks for your support and help! Hope this is the last set back. I guess it pushes out my timeline, but hey -- I'll have appliances by this afternoon. And I didn't get to do a big unveiling of the finished kitchen...but this was pretty important. Or so it felt at 6am. :))...See Morecan anyone give me some advice for keeping squirels off tomato plants.
Comments (21)I relocated 4 squirrels this year. While they're not completely gone, the damage is a lot more contained. I lost 90% of my fruit on one plant, about 50% on three more, and about 15% on the last one in the space of two weeks. After relocating the final squirrel a week ago, I "only" lost one fruit. I tried all the other methods, including food on the other side of the house. They just eat the food and move on to the tomatoes. I really don't want to kill them (though my mom does. It's funny, she's more militant about my plants than I am), but this way they at least have a chance to live. I released most of them on a highway service plaza on my way to work (~40 miles away by road, ~30 miles as the crow flies). The service plaza is in the median and has some trees, and the highway is surrounded by mixed pinelands. Will they become roadkill? Maybe, but maybe they'll survive and not get to anyone else's tomatoes....See MoreCan someone please give me exterior design/landscaping advice?
Comments (17)Pink Mountain, lol about my house being a prime example of needing foundation plantings! It's what we've been saying for months. We've only been here a year, got a lot of inside work done and now want to start on front. Little by little as budget allows. I'll definitely use these ideas....See MoreUser
