Thanks for IDs! I thought both vilmorniana and attenuata were possibilities. It was not bothered one bit by frost (23F twice this winter (which makes me think it is not attenuata) & it is readily sending up pups, which makes me think it's not vilmorniana. Maybe it's some hybrid agave?? I bought it unlabeled at Lowes.

Surprised nobody has come along with a name yet... Doesn't look like a creeper, so if you keep pulling these up as the available seeds sprout, before the plants make more seeds, eventually there will be no more seeds TO sprout besides whatever new gifts the birds or wind bring to your yard. If you're pressed for time, just mowing them until you have time to pull will help keep it from being able to put more seeds out. If they're annuals, this may be all the control you need.

Thanks Virgil - we will definitely not do the lay flat - looks crappy. Prefer the 2x2, hubby said that there is a 2.5x2.5 which could mirror the 5' spacing of the bar joists for consistency. (Not sure anyone would notice but us and pretty sure that starts to limit us on the HVAC stuff / lighting.) The recessed tegular is a good compromise and what our initial quote is for and seems to be quiet reasonable (under budget right now, but I'll fix that!), but I will check out the canceled spine costs too - thanks. I LOVE the linear lights - I saw several that don't look too terribly expensive (again - all is relative...) and think that putting them in the pantry area would be awesome to highlight the galley aspect of that. Other areas can be lighted by a square LED can that will provide a consistent rectilinear look too at far less cost. Perhaps even ganging a few of them together in a pattern gives creativity with a lower cost light source. Thanks for the feedback!
