I did a lot of research on the roof rainwater thing as I bought a rain barrel this year for use on my veggie garden. But, after installing it and bragging to my brother about it, things began to change. My brother is a Landscape Architect grad from UGA, and he explained to me that they were not allowed to use the UGA rain barrels on edibles for many reasons. 1st.) Shingle company's have a disclaimer out there that says you should not use it because there is a possibility of hydro-carbons contaminating the water. (probably more of CYA than anything.) 2.) your roof accumulates a lot of pollution and animal feces, so the water may be contaminated with harmful bacteria. A "first flush" system can fix this issue. 3.) The water can become stagnant and contaminated with bacteria and algaes as it cooks in the hot sun. 4.) waters not potable, and some say you should only water your edibles with potable water. So, I naturally research this pretty intensively and have found that there is really no data on whether or not the soil would transfer said contaminants to they veggies themselves. And if it does, what amounts would be present. So basically, this is your judgement. People have been using their barrels for years without issues, but if you want to be on the safe side, only use the water for non edibles. I will use mine for early watering when the plants are just seedlings and such, but I stop using it weeks before harvest time. If you want to be on the safe side, don't use it on edibles.

Without spending a fair bit of time, even an advanced PC user is not usually able to distinguish between advisable and inadvisable updates. An intermediate or beginning level user may not even understand the issues addressed in a particular update, much less have knowledge to determine a thoughtful course of action. Program update release decisions are made by people with the knowledge and understanding to know when changes should be pushed out. I leave those decisions to them and never give it another thought. Mistakes are made, yes, that's what the restore function is for. I rarely need to use it. Yes, and others have said, to each his own decision. But in doing so, don't fool yourself into thinking that you know more about it than you do and that you're accomplishing anything. If you resist the update a dozen times and then tire of the message and give it the go-ahead, you've really accomplished nothing but to delay what might have been an important update.

Wow. These are great alternatives. I'm trying them all out. The Bookmark Current Tab Set is very handy - simple - and just what I want to do. I actually downloaded all three bookmark addons that Raven recommended. I'm experimenting with them to see where they place things. I was easily able to bookmark all open tabs from 3 different computers - so I can play around with it this weekend. Jean - I had no idea that there was also a simple drop down option. I just have to see where that puts the bookmarked tabs. Raven - are there any icons that will allow me to place those bookmark add-ons where I can access them with one click. Right now I'm going to the Bookmarks menu - clicking - then clicking the option. I know that's just one more step, but I figured there's likely to be an icon I can just put on my the top (can't believe I'm blanking on the name of that - not the tool bar per se but one of the lines about - like where the file - edit= view - history - bookmarks, tools - help menus are. I have various icons for other addons - like firefox showcase, adblock plus, Wot, Outwit. Is this a matter of whether the add-on develops include an icon to add? Or is there a way I can add one (I didn't see it in options for these addons and don't remember how I got the icons I already have). Thanks. Lynn.

Okaayyyyyyyyy..... Here's what I did: Clicked on the tool bar: View, scroll down to Encoding. Then I switched from Western (ISO-8859-1) to UNICODE (UTF-8). No weird symbols on THIS thread,,,,, they disappeared!! BUT..... I opened another tab & checked THIS thread and the CASSEROLE thread..... the WEIRD SYMBOLS are back & the Encoding has switched back to Western (ISO-8859-1). So it must be the default Encoding???? BTW, I checked my other browsers Safari & Chrome..... both show the WEIRD SYMBOLS. ***in wayyy over my head here****
