hey carl first.. all the forums tend to die between late fall .. and the holidays ... and somewhat into january ... peeps are just distracted ... and a little depressed stuck in the house.. once the holidays breaks.. dreams of next years garden.. seem to increase participation ...mostly with receipt of catalogs .... as to pix.. they are my pix.. and i do not post them for GW or anyone else to 'store' for me .... that would involve GW using my work product for their profit in running GW .... also ... i am not going to pay some site like photobucket for an extra-ordinary amount of space to store every picture i ever posted .... so as my posts fall down thru to page 2 or 3 .... i tend to delete the pix from PB .... but i am always willing post pix on a request.... or if you want to bring up an old post.. just do a reply .. and there is a super secret way for me to post the pix contained therein ... ken

When the NE Coast forum first debuted, I did make a post or two. But then I got to thinking. One, I don't know if I'm technically on the coast - I'm more like on LI sound, lol. Secondly, how "on the coast" is coastal? Is ten to fifteen miles inland still considered coastal, and would my conditions count as coastal conditions? I wasn't sure, so I kind of drifted away. Too bad the forum is so slow. I hate when there seems to be a great forum in idea, at least, and in practice it isn't. I went through that with the Going Green forum. I was so excited when it debuted, and then found that it's slow as molasses going uphill in January! Disappointing! :) Dee

Hi yogagrl. The only veggies that do well indoors, even with lots of windows, are the leafy ones, like lettuce or kale, or radishes might produce a bulb. Those that flower and produce "fruit" need more sunlight than comes through windows. There are a lot of very pretty lettuces you could try. If you could provide supplemental grow lights, then you can grow just about anything indoors. There's a good forum here on growing under lights. I'll put a link at the bottom of this post. Do you have a patio or deck? If so and it gets adequate sunlight (minimum of 6 hours full sun a day) then you can grow veggies in pots or planters. VA Tech has good publications on the subject. I'm not sure the color matters as much as the paint finish? I don't know for sure. We've been in our house two years. During the first year there were lots of settlement faults (nail pops, cracks, etc.). During the second year there were also some. We had builders standard paint finishes (BM flat I believe). Probably next year we will start repainting some rooms of the house and will go for a higher grade finish as well as the colors we want. The builder did two special colors for us (rather than the Navajo white which is everywhere else). We really like one of the colors and it has been in rooms that didn't have much settlement. The other color we determined after living with we don't care for that much (it's a yellow, that turns out to be too cool for us) and it hasn't worn that well. HTH, -a
