Hello PF... Since you are on target for this summer, have you decided on a town? I just discovered this post, because I always wanted to move to Maine too. I guess we are all looking for the perfect place and at least for me, I am sure I tend to romanticize it. I think I developed my sense of 'Maine' from books that I read growing up mixed together with a little dash of trips to Maine. :-) Then when our children were small, I seemed to keep finding books for children set in Maine and that just kept the dream alive. lol Blueberries for Sal for some reason sticks in my memory. I have a feeling that the Maine I imagine, doesn't exist any more, if it ever did. I would love the opportunity to visit Maine more and hopefully find that at least some of my imaginings about Maine are on target. I enjoyed reading about the different towns in Maine that have some of the qualities you are looking for. Great thread. :-)

And I think putting more modern furniture in an old house ruins the "feel" and joy of an old house. Think of it this way, you save up for a "new" house, maybe you have it built so it's "brandy new" but you can't afford new furniture-so you use what you have. I think older furniture in a newer house works just fine.

I just bought the 10 pack. My friend grew tomatoes with success. I am doing mostly herbs and peppers in mine. I made a in line 8 bucket self watering set up with 5 gallon buckets for you smaller tomatoes and the big boys are going in the raised beds and in the 20 gallon self watering planters I made. This is my first try with the sub irrigated containers. Many people prefer it to actually digging up the garden every year.

I have both Growboxes and Earthboxes and prefer the Earthboxes primarily because they are all one piece so much easier to move as needed and much easier to fill the water tanks. The Growboxes are 2 separate pieces and do not latch together well enough IMO and alot of bending over is required to fill them with water. Plus they don't wick the water as well as the EB do. As for growing things in them they perform equally well although I no longer use the GB fert mats. I find both to be mis-leading in the number of plants they claim they can hold and get much better performance from both when I plant much less than they claim will fit in them. JMO after several years of using both. Dave
