small trailing houseplant, fragrant leaves?
Comments (2)comment about rosemary. I have tried keeping rosemary alive in winter-- it's extremely difficult. Rosemary needs hot, hot, hot sun to really thrive (and also to develop its fragrance). After trying it for two winters indoors, I gave up. It gets mildewed indoors in winter. Indoor light is simply not enough for it. I believe this would be especially true in a bathroom situation, where I would expect it to get mildewed even in summer. It might avoid mildew if it were denuded of leaves and kept very dry, but this defeats your purpose....See MoreWhat is YOUR Fav first flower to bloom?
Comments (60)Hard to nail a favorite "first" since the Hellebores seem to start in December and just keep going all winter! One of my favorites in Hamamelis 'Arnold Promise', not just because of it's early and unexpected bloom, but because I happened to site it right next to an Ilex verticillata, still brimming with bright red berries - so the combination is exhilarating. . . And to the responder who was speculating about crawling about on hands-and-knees to view those downward-facing hellebores: many, many years ago, a very clever little old lady showed me how she dealt with that in her garden - by placing little 6" round mirrors on the ground (even in the snow!) under the blooms. . . Those old-timers really had it all figured out - that little old lady next door had this little tyke completely hooked on gardening at the age of seven ! Comments (30)Ok Pavlovs Don. Grown adults drooling over hosta's. I don't know what's wrong with all of us but I like it. Thanks bmonkeys. Yes they are limelight trees creating a "floating hedge" around a courtyard. So as not to set a bad example to the neighborhood kids I only enjoy an iced tea there. If it happens to be of the Long Island variety so be it. : )) Thank you Jo. Very good eye. Actea 'Hillside Black Beauty'. Great foliage, flowers and fragrance. A must for any hosta garden. A group of them along side a Sun King Aralia with a big blue hosta will be in my garden soon....See MoreYour Fav' Upright/Sturdy Fragrant Peony?
Comments (2)Steve By far my favorite peony that is really upright with stems of iron is Rozella. It has very double pink flowers. I recall that it has scent however my nose seems to no longer pick up flower scents. It is the latest of all of my peonies to bloom. I grow perhaps 125 cultivars of herbaceous peonies in my yard and many times it is the only peony still in bloom through the last 3 or 4 days of my bloom season. It is not an easy plant to find.
