somethings eating my zinnia leaves
Comments (8)I think the mystery is solved. I sprinkled fertlizer around them last weekend and my husband kept telling me to be more careful because I was getting some on the leaves. Of course being the know-it-all princess that I am I did not heed the warning. Anyway I got him to go look at them yesterday when he got home from work only to here him say those 4 little words I despise the most---"I told you so". Anyway thanks for all the feedback!...See MoreSomething is eating my leaves on my Artichoke seedlings
Comments (2)I'm a bit late to answer, I know, but it might be interesting to note that snails and slugs love artichokes ! I have planted 12 artichokes, far apart one from the other, and they are fighting to survive against the snails and slugs. Ferramol the little buggers don't find it tasty enough. My ripe strawberries they don't give a rat's butt. Obviously the weeds they are fed up with. But the artichokes they are mad of them ! Gourmet meal ! Even the big hard leaves ! So I had to buy grounded coffee, kilos of it, and to make a ring around the artichokes. I sort of mulched around the plant and the circle is about 60 cm in diameter. I wish I had stock in starbuck because me alone have helped their business a lot ! Oh, there's hand picking as well, which I used to do at 6 in the morning, when only the artichokes were planted. Now I have to water the 50 tomatoes and 10 zucchinis and 5 squash (the lattest being a tasty meal for the snails too apparently ! ) so there's no time to pick the buggers before work any more ! Good luck ! Enjoy it that you're not here in the South of France where we have billions of little white snails called "limacon" ! They are so numerous that they stiffle whole big trees in summer when they stuck on them to avoid the hot soil !...See Moresomething is eating my hibiscus
Comments (3)buddyzzz, Are the leaves turning yellow and dropping all along the entire length of stems and then the stems also turn yellow? This is what's happening to one of my hibiscus and now whatever it is seems to have spread to a nearby hibiscus. The whole stem drops its leaves and eventually turns yellow. Then it spreads to another stem on same plant. I think it must be bacterial, fungal or viral. I'll see if I can post a picture on here somewhere....See MoreSomething eating my leaves
Comments (9)Leaf cutter ants don't do surgery in that manner. (Besides, I don't think we have any around here.) Most likely it is a small caterpillar of some kind. Don't sweat it. You have to expect leaf damage at this time of year, and the plants are way beefy and beyond caring. Just curse the little bugger in absentia and go back to yelling at the television news (one of my favorite sports, btw...) Dennis...See Moremerkity
