Peggy Martin Rose
Comments (16)@summersrhythm_z6a, here is Peggy Martin that I gave to my friend growing on his new fence that we built last year. It's already swirling around the swags. Last Oct. After it had been transplanted during mid-Summer. We transplanted another this spring so it is a little behind. These were growing at my house in total shade where they would get a great spring flush and put on wonderful growth but not much after that. Here's a picture of them from my house. You may have seen it before. Please click to enlarge. :-)...See MoreNeed Suggestions for a Climber/Rambler - not a modern rose
Comments (11)Oh thanks Kim! I have and LOVE Mel's Heritage - it drapes over my front fence in front of my farm and is absolutely a show stopper! I think I might have Renae - it is a pretty decent sized rose in a pot, I have it growing rather like a standard but tag got lost - will have to let it bloom in spring and see. I have been wanting to try Florence Bowers and think I will do that - any of these would be good, just want to add something different. And just thought of this - a few years back, I was looking at a house for sale with a friend of mine who was looking - and spotted a magnificent Mutablis that was growing as a draping climber - the people had let it grow from one huge cane that they had kept pruned from the ground up to where the plant had leaves and it was blooming and draping from the top of the plant. Like a standard that was tied to the wall and draping. I had a fit - and wanted to do the same thing with it so bought a 1 gallon Mutablis from Chamblees some years ago and separated the 3 rooted cuttings. One died but the other 2 lived. They are now in 3 gallon pots - I just pruned them the other day and they are growing like standards. I plant to plant them on my front fence [a 3 board horse fence] and let them drape over it on either side, keeping the main cane trimmed so it wont look messy at the bottom. I could use one of these in that spot, but think Florence is more what I am wanting, bigger blooms that can be seen from my deck. Some of those photos of this rose on HMF growing over an arbor are simply gorgeous! Going to order one right now! You always have the best advice and suggestions, I so enjoy reading your posts. You should write a book and put down all your knowledge - it would sell like hotcakes and make you rich! Just ordered some from Burling, and had a lovely chat with her by phone - such a charming lady! Thank you for your suggestions - just what I needed! Comments (15)@panko9 I'm attaching an article. Be warned though that the dogwoods (and probably azaleas too, I know mine are at peak) will soon be gone. There will still be beautiful yards/gardens though. Right now the trails are marked with a pink stripe. I'm not sure how long that stays. In the article I'm linking; if you go to the bottom of the page you will find some links. One will show the trails. dogwood arts festival...See MorePeggy Martin or Zephirine Drouhin
Comments (18)Dingo, Originally I had to Peggy martin on the north side of a wooden Semi open fence That received good sun Until the sweet gum tree leafed out. Then one got morning sun And the other very little. I got 1 good flush. I can't remember If I got a second flush, but i realized it was too nice For That spot. I was helping my friend with his garden and he needed a couple of tall climbers so I gave them to him. They're in full sun and Immediately came into bloom once they established themselves last summer which was quickly, And gave him another large bloom in the fall. They are crazy blooming now apparently. He said he would send me pictures so I'm waiting. I will post them here when I get them. So I'm guessing at least 3 large flushes In a good son position No die back for The past 2 years. They were kept in a pot for the winter prior. As you can see from Diana's post their quick Growers....See Morevaflowernut
