Comments (9)Ladylotus, I received the seed for the Swazicums from a wonderful gentleman in S. Africa. He very kindly offered some to me and I was so excited. If I should come across any more or hear, I can let you know. Mark has some on the go also. Marie, the first photo is of a seedling from seed of Ko's for 'New Yellow" an Obesum. I have about 3-4 of these and all the others grew totally different. This one had produced multiple branches and the leaves have stayed small. Not bloomed yet, but it will be interesting to see when it does. I really want to try some multi grafts as you do this year. Rick...See MoreFinally!!! A Somalense Nova
Comments (12)Tracy, I wish I could send you a Swazicum seedling. Just started some more swazicums a month ago. It would be wonderful if we could all swap plants, but it is too difficult with all the restrictions. Livingstones Nursery (Mark Dimmitt's) has the A. Swazicum and A. Oliefolium. He also has one that I have always wanted called 'Crimson Star'. It is a cross of Swazicum 'Boyce Thompson x Obesum 'Red Everbloomer'. One that Mark grew. Love it's intense deep red single blooms (star shaped). Rick...See MoreGrafting question
Comments (2)Jedoba, I am not sure of the legitimate age, but there is literature in Mark D.'s book which shows a seedling being used as grafting scion. I cannot be sure of my seedlings ages when I did some grafting, but they where less than 10mths. I had a Swazicum seedling which had damage at the soil line and I did not want to lose it. I used it (Swazicum) as the scion and did a cleft graft onto an Arabicum root stock. Then took the top piece of Arabicum I had cut of rootstock and used a piece as the scion (flat graft) onto an obesum rootstock. They both took and have done more since with other stock. Quite a lot of fun. Swazicum onto Arabicum is not the best choice as the Swazicum is a lot more aggressive grower, but it was an opportunity to start trying some grafting trials. Comments (44)Rick, I can't understand how to send you a private message. Maybe I just overlook something, or maybe I don't have access since I can't confirm my e-mail: the request is always hanging there but the message doesn't come. I get the notifications though... Anyway, my e-mail is oksanika@rambler.ru Would you be so kind, please?...See Moremaark23 TX/8a
