Kinda funny cat & mouse story
Comments (12)Oh yucky!! I have had my share of mice adventures out at the ranch (the first time in my life I've had to deal with the skittish little creatures). Our Flower turned out to be an excellent mouser even at the age of 15 and going strong. I hate the traps and have started to use the sticky traps too but you do have to switch off once in a while as there seems to be a warning system among mice. I'll catch a few and then I catch nothing. So I set the icky wooden traps and immediately catch more. At least that means I don't have to use the wooden traps all the time. Blech. I don't unload, I made the Rancher do it. I don't what this winter will bring in the new place I did stuff steel wool into every crack I could find before I moved in because there was evidence of mice in the east addition of the house. Good Flower, mommy loves you. LOL! MeMo...See MoreOf Interest - Worst Smelling Flowers!
Comments (18)When the Titum arum at our local botanics bloomed, the glasshouses stayed open till midnight - it was quite a sight - little kids in their pyjamas with mums and dads, queuing up to see (and sniff) the largest flower in the world. By 6 feet away or so, little whiffs wafted about and as we all shuffled past (to the sound of gagging and retching (and shrieks from little ones), we were assailed by the most loathesome pong - old blood, very dodgy meat - truly awesome.....and the flower was utterly alien (although extraordinarily bizarrely lush). On a more usual level, I am not at all keen on Crown Imperial fritillaries or the foliage of codonopsis clematidea....See MoreHoya subcalva flowers...smells like grape juice
Comments (21)Never heard of it used for mealies. But that doesn't mean it wouldn't kill them. However, it wouldn't be enough (just like rubbing alcohol wouldn't be enough, at least for a big infestation)...you'd need to use some kind of systemic (or natural solution if you prefer that). I've tried the natural sprays like Neem Oil, and it didn't do anything except make my house smell! I hear some people have luck with fish emulsion (or whatever that's called). Back on the topic of lemon, I use GSE (grapefruit seed extract) in my mister bottle as a preventative for mealies and other bugs. I have no idea if it works or not, but I've heard good thing about it. Maybe the lemon would be similar to GSE, as a preventative. It's worth a try if you're curious. Good luck and let us know the turn-out, Gabi...See Morefunny-looking cilantro
Comments (5)That's what it does. The first time I planted cilantro seed I planted it in the spring. It didn't come up so I got another packet and planted it again. Still a third time I planted it. I was determined to have cilantro, but it was not to be -- not yet! Imagine my surprise when in the fall all those seeds sprouted and I had tons of cilantro coming up. It sprouts in the fall, lives through the winter, bolts (puts up flowering bracts very quickly) in late spring, makes seeds, and dies. The seeds sit there until fall before sprouting. The white flowers are kind of pretty. I put them in a bouquet of roses once and people leaning over to get a sniff of roses got something else. I didn't do that anymore! LOL...See Morebouquet_kansas
