Could this be black walnut tree?
Comments (7)OMG...............we have and harvest them. I did the shucking one year from the hull, and the mate did the cracking and nut extraction. We have a device designed especially for them. To make a long story short, I was working with the public at the time, and wore several sets of gloves to keep the juice from staining my fingers. Ha! The dye seeped through a pair of cotton and also latex gloves. My fingers started out green and turned brown and it looked like the hands of an old geezer who smoked unfiltered cigarettes down to the nubbins. I taped all my fingers over every day for a couple weeks out of embarrassment. Nothing, including hand scrubs with scouring powder took it off....See Morehelp! hybrid black walnut/english walnut tree seedling black tips

Comments (13)I don't disagree with any of the above information. I can only address with what I know in dealing with these trees first hand The neighbors back yard that backs up to mine is full of Black Walnut. The closest one now is 25 ft. from my property line with 4-5 remaining deeper into his property line. Two years ago I paid to have two removed 5 ft. from property line... stumps and all. There has never been any sign of rejuvenation from remaining roots. I had them removed because of shade issues. In the 30 years I have lived here there was never any issues with juglone above or below the ground. All my plants thrived. The only issues with these trees was the shade issue preventing my conifers from receiving adequate sun light. Now that that is resolved no other issues abound. In my opinion the juglone issue from walnut trees is way over played to the extent it is a superfluous discussion material. Might as well be talking about how many times it has snowed in Scottsdale AZ. By nature these are trash trees. Broken limbs because of to much walnut production. Ground clutter from fallen walnuts plus they defoliate early in the Fall trashing my yard with leaves, twigs and the like. Black Walnut, Sweet Gum, Popular, Soft Maple, Silver Maple all dumpster bound at one time or another for me. Garen, good luck on what ever you decide to do. Other then the stumps being a issue you want resolved don't loose sleep over the juglone. Dave...See MoreAnybody know where I can get Cranz Black Walnut trees?
Comments (6)Robert, send me an email sometime in January or February. I will be glad to send you some scion wood. In addition to Mintle, I have Sparrow and Surprise. I've also got some more, but they were just grafted last year and may not be big enough to harvest scion wood from yet. No heartnuts. My email is hubbard appraisal @ g mail.com (remove the spaces)....See Moreconniemcghee
