I can't really tell you much but I'm growing yellow Fatali for the first time.

That's a fatali, imho...

Could be, but the pods are bigger, fatter, and a bit darker than mine were. General shape and habit seems right, though.

scott, where did you get the plant or seeds?

Thanks guys. I got the seeds from generous members of this forum. I should have mentioned I am growing both fatali and yellow bhuts, I just lost my markers. Maybe I will be able to tell better when I get ripe pods on the other plants.

If i were forced to bet, I'd say Fatalii but something about them seems off; larger size, maybe calyx and average pod shape. Don't know but on average they don't look exactly like the Fatalii's i've grown.

They might be some Fatalii lineage, or had a cross in the distant past, or maybe there is some yellow Bhut in them. The one in your hand almost looks like an Aji Limon, lol.

I suspect you'll find out once your other plants produce ripe pods.

So I tried the âÂÂfataliâ pictured above. It only had one seed in it. Is that typical of a fatali? This pod was hiding so I didnâÂÂt get to it soon enough, maybe that is why the color is darker? This one was much fruitier than the first pod but still not as fruity as the yellow brain strain. Maybe my perception was off. The first time, I tried it side by side with a YBS and those thing are dangerously sweet and fruity. They could get you into trouble if you didnâÂÂt know it was a super. From what I have seen on the internet some have the fatali SHU listed around 250,000 some have it at 500,000. I think this pepper had to be closer to 500,000 than 250,000. I Know I only ate half of a YBS pod and an entire âÂÂfataliâ but the heat was not too far off the YBS. Definitely hotter than any hab I have tried (I have not tried the choc habs yet). It also had a unique burn different from any pepper I have tried to date. It was extraordinarily stingy but it was only on the tongue.

Everything you're saying sounds right Scott. The first pod's flavor is usually off. And about SHU ratings not telling the whole story, the first Fatalii i ever had stung me more than any habanero, my chili-head b-inlaw actually had to spit out his first taste, lol. It may have something to do with the ratio of the different capsaicin's inside, and our tolerances of them.

And they are low on seed count, which makes them easier to process.

Agreed, generally low on seed count. But "only one seed" is an aberration. Later pods will have more.

I get the impression that you're starting to like your fatalii. :D

(FWIW, I've never had a YBS - sounds like one I should look into.)

Thanks guys! Yeah, the "fatali" (if that's what's I have) is a nice pepper. Enough heat to push my limits but not completely take me out lol. Dennis, I highly recommend the YBS, would be happy to send you some seeds when I get some more ripe pods. Let me know if your interested.

That's a seriously cool looking pod, but I never saw anything like it off my yellow fatalii.

Haha I hope not! This pod makes me think closer to a yellow bhut. Bottom line I need to find a better way to label my plants. This is two years in a row I have been very organized and carful in knowing what's what until they go outside and I lose my markers one way or another. First year was my dog pulling Popsicle sticks, this year it was rain melting labels.

That last pic does have more of a yellow bhut look to it.

Google images is showing yellow bhut pods that seem 'not' as wrinkly or gnarly looking as red bhut pods, on average imho anyways...

Dennis, when you said darker earlier, did you mean darker green or darker yellow? I noticed I have a plant that has a much lighter green to the immature pods than the others.

I meant a darker yellow pod. Awfully hard to tell with photos though. IIRC the immature pods are lighter green than other varieties but not by a huge margin. Are the leaves a little pale too?

It's not the original plant I posted, but another. I have attached a photo. Pods are light green but leaves are dark green. I know it's hard to see in the picture, but the other plant's pods are the same color as the leaves. Not sure if the ghost or fatali would have darker green immature pods? Something's wrong with my camera, dark yellows shows up orange.

Those are some gnarly looking pods, there. My yellows were pretty smooth, with few indents. Reds were a little gnarlier, but not much and not as much as these.

Have there been any crop circles in your area?

Yeah I'm thinking the last plant I posted with the gnarly pods is probably a bhut. Red or yellow I'm not sure. I pulled two branches together from two different plants and took a picture. It shows the green color difference in the immature pods.

A decade late but I’ve grown Fatali for over 10 years because it’s so supreme and mine produce well and get quite large and hot. I would bet my entire life savings that that is a Fatali! The brain strain is fruitier and Fatali has a more instant different heat than pure chinense peppers! Keep growing the fire!!!

Correction. It’s always been considered a chinense but I’m a firm believer that it has annuum in its lineage
