Some seedling photos
Comments (12)Thanks! As for unique....the more seeds you sow and grow, the more odd or unusual seedlings pop up. I still don't have a single adenium with variegated leaves, though. Most times, out of a single packet of maybe 12 to 15 obesum seeds, even if 8 or 10 germinate and grow....2 or 3 are very different from their siblings. Those super compact arabicums, like Head Explodes, Diamond Scintillation, Gold Bracelet, etc., are another story entirely. They're special arabicum/Thai soco hybrids specifically bred to stay short and wide....and in many cases they branch like crazy from a very early age--like a month or so! Even still, there is some variation within specific types (as can be expected)....for instance, out of 4 seedlings (from 5 seeds) of arabicum Diamond Scintillation, three look virtually identical except for size differences, and then there's this one in the photo--it has two main stems. These make very special plants when they're older--sort of like twins sharing a caudex....See MoreShagbark hickory seedling photo

Comments (12)I know some don't like Spider types Rita. There was a time when I felt the same way but I got over it..Hehehe!! I agree that the color is a grabber on that one.. Hahaha!! Chris, I truly was taken with a couple of those. I am waiting for next blooms but new seedling don't bloom to much and those plants are very small..I think I have 2 or 3 that as of yet haven't bloomed but I have scapes.. Kay, they did turn out well, I think. Maybe more to come... That's true Celeste. If you don't like this type of bloom, hang around and you might see something you like. Thanks ladies for looking...Ellie...See MoreB. chinensis Seedling Photo
Comments (4)Well, I might be offering these up for adoption next fall after they have had a growing season to establish themselves. I have noticed that the link I provided and other links state that the lowest zone applicable for these plants is zone 5. I live in zone 4 so I don't know if they will winter over here. I do know that I have tried many zone 5 plant varieties and have never had success. Some varieties would survive a winter or two and then one of our harsh winters would occur and kill them off. It never occurred to me to check the growing range. I figured it's an iris - I have lots of iris so no reason they shouldn't work. I counted yesterday and I have 47 happy little babies. Bummer. I would love to hear if anyone is growing these successfully in a rural area (not in a town or city) in zone 4. Thanks in advance. -Tom...See Moremorningloree
