Finally - Moonflower Blooms
Comments (9)Lookin' good, Summer. Looks a lot better than mine. Of course there is a reason for mine not being too good....namely I forgot to plant them. I found the seed pack in the cellar recently. Seriously, how large are they?...See MoreMoonflower Vine Blooming!
Comments (3)Congratulations! I have one planted with a lot of other morning glories (all I. purpureas) that have been blooming like crazy all summer. It bloomed exactly once. Just one bloom. Gorgeous flower, but I couldn't detect the fragrance at the time (probably due to allergies...) We have been waiting and waiting for a reappearance of this elusive beauty, but so far nothing. Maybe that early bloom was a fluke, and mine will start up in earnest soon. My I. nils never bloom until pretty late in the summer (about now). So we'll see. This is my first experience with I. alba....See MoreWhen to expect my moonflower to bloom
Comments (22)This is my first year growing moon flowers from seed as well. The first batch I started inside in small seed pots in the beginning of April. When they got about 8 inches tall, I moved outside under a large tree so the could grow and climb up & around the tree. However, the squirrels ate them after like 3 days :( I was so excited to see them grow, that I got more seeds and decided to try again. I started the second batch in a planter at the end of May and then transplanted outside near the chain link fence at the front porch. They are thriving. The vines are at least 10 feet long and weaving all in the fence, but it's mid July and still now flowers, not even any buds. I'm hoping it won't be much longer until the flowers begin to sprout. I'm sure the wait will be worth it!...See MoreMoonflower first bloom yesterday
Comments (7)Same here, they bloom late even when I start them in the winter. At least you have a longer growing season. We usually get a hard frost in Oct. I've wintered a potted Ipomoea Alba over in the greenhouse and did get very early blooms the following year. As a matter of fact it pretty much just bloomed thru the winter but it grows like mad and isn't a well behaved greenhouse plant. It's not bad if you keep it cut back over the winter. I had to wait a bit but still got flowers by late spring....See Moreprimulaveris
