How To Win On Freecycle
Comments (17)Karen, thanks for your generous offer of advice on Ebay Selling! When I get it together a bit better, I'll be contacting you for sure. I have threatened for 5 years to sell on it, but just haven't gotten set up with PayPal mainly, plus the other thing I sorta worry about is doing that first Check Out, I'd hate to screw that up! I have a score of 100 and have made purchases exactly 100 times since 2002, but have never sold yet, but at least I'm established well enough for buyers to "trust" me ... do they dare lol. The main thing that is preventing me now is that I'm not organized enough to run it properly as a small business. I really want to keep up with my profits (hopefully no losses!). My daughter is moving very soon, and all her furniture that is filling up my basement, and causing me to be unable to get to my stuff, will finally get moved. They are in the process of looking at houses now. Should be out of here soon, but in a nearby neighborhood! I can't wait to get my bathroom and bedroom back again! It's been 6 months now. Thanks again Karen ~tenderlee...See MoreWho Makes This 'New' Craftsman 50cc Chain Saw?
Comments (30)This is "John" with a changed, but registered, User Name. Thanks for the echo tip. It's just a bit too small for bucking the 3 ancient ashes that nature felled for me this year in the woods out back. I had tried a new Homelite 20" from HD for $100, but there were obvious mixture problems, so I returned it ASAP. I got the Sears 20" for $179 on-line this afternoon, free shipping, etc., figuring that all big box stores are dumping their 20" saws, and, sure enough, when I went to the Sears store to get my free quart of pre-mixed fuel tonight, theirs had been marked down to something like $189 for tomorrow's 1-day sale. Sears weighs the same as Homelite (21 lbs.), which I handled pretty easily. Will keep you posted on whether 50cc really quacks like 50cc....See Morehiroshi makita
Comments (12)Please hang on with me- I've never blogged! I realize this is an old thread, but I'm taking a trip down memory lane... Thirty or so years ago while I was growing up (I'm 39) Mr. Makita (as I always knew him) worked extensively for years at my next door neighbor's home. As it happened, my father is a landscape architect, and they forged a nice relationship- working together to compliment the gardens and views for all to enjoy and reflect. They worked with the natural terrain and woods highlighting the natural beauty. For years, I would look out my bedroom window and in my back yard, (weeding) and watch Makita lovingly move each individual stone, each plant...for years... day after day... on and on. I completely respect him as well as his work. I remember him as a very sincere, soft spoken and modest person- not at all like many of you projected. To those who have negatively commented on his work, I strongly suggest that you visit it in person. His gardens remain beautiful & peaceful.- and having been in Japan- at least the one next door is traditionally Japanese. (no bright colors, etc) Life comes full circle, and then the cirle closes. I am now working with my father to put a small Japanse garden in the front of my modest home (outside philly). In discussing design and plans- we both refrenced Mr. Makita as inspiration. The house where he designed the gardens' owners have died, and new owners have just moved in. Dad felt obligated to go and educate the new owners about their gardens and their creator and his reflections and reasons. In doing so, we realized that his work for years next door was lifelong gift to us! I would love to reach out to him if anyone knows anything about his current whereabouts- Regards-...See MoreOnce again, my garden hopes and dreams are crushed. Literally.
Comments (64)Scott, I just just logged on and saw your post. We have been so crazy busy with clean-up, the kids, and just daily life that I haven't checked back in. This story has a HAPPY ending! Or, at least, not a bad one. :) Our insurance deductible is $2,000. The claim was just over $4,000 in damages per the adjuster. He gave us a couple of hundred for debris removal, $2,000 for the fence repair, a little bit for the attic leak which just requires some water seal, and around $2000 for the depreciated value of the play set and grill. Nothing for the large tree or fruit trees, as they did not hit any structures. So we have $2,000 for repairs. The city of Jenks hauled away all of our small limbs free of charge. I listed the play set for parts on CL (swings, slide, rock climbing wall, ladder. etc) for $80. A very nice man came and bought the parts, then insisted he haul away the scrap wood too. He has 20 acres somewhere and said he would rather burn it, so we didn't have to pay to get it hauled off! He is a carpenter, and said that now he can build his grandchildren a play set for minimal cost. Win-win for both of us. I helped him load it, and I thought I was gonna die. Some of the items were huge and heavy (the roof, the tunnel)...He brought a pickup truck and a 16 foot trailer, and they were both piled high when he drove off. My neighbors' landscapers asked if they could have the grill for scrap metal, so I gave it to them. Dave fixed most of the damaged fence with a few new rails, some leftover stain, and some quickcrete. That cost under $50. So now, we actually have around $2,000 to replace the play set and grill (which is about what they will cost). We pretty much broke even :) The big tree is mostly gone, and many of my small fruit trees were undamaged. One was on its side, and we replanted and staked it. A couple are snapped off. They may regrow. I do still have a large stump and a few feet of the base of my tree laying in the garden, Dave has been hacking away at it. But Scott, if you are ever in the area and the offer still stands, I'd love to take you up on it. Don't make a special trip, and I'd insist on paying you something for your time and effort. I'm not sure how long you are going away for, but I don't think Dave is going to get this thing chopped up any time soon. :) Jo...See Moregerald
