Putting perennials into dry area with wild daylilies
Comments (5)Thanks for the suggestions. I will have to look up those ones I donÂt know (the pardancandas, belamcandas, euphorbias). I picked up an agastache yesterday (Black Adder): didnÂt know they liked it dry: lucky pick! Do the taller sedums stay upright or do they flop? I have been tempted by Black Jack. I was thinking of perovskia: I like the form, but it gets too big for my main garden: here it might work. I didnÂt know there were smaller ones; like how small? My main garden has mostly pastels with lots of pink: I was thinking about doing a hotter color combo here with oranges and deep blues and purples. Then I could take advantage of all those great fall bloomers that seem to be more orange (gaillardia, helianthus?). I keep looking at this great orange lantana I see in public places: is that an annual or perennial? I have annual lantana in my deck pots but itÂs basically over, whereas this orange one IÂm seeing everywhere is going strong at the end of September. What about grasses? I have never grown any. When I see them in nurseries they all look alike: itÂs hard to tell which one will grow up to look nice in the fall with attractive plumes/ seedheads....See MoreDaylily Newbie seeks opinions on list of daylilies
Comments (18)I haven't grown very many on your list, but I will add one comment regarding one that I have grown. At least in my garden, All Fired Up was not "apricot and salmon" as per your note. It was a great performer, but definately orange rather than apricot and the eye and edge were red rather than salmon! Here's a picture from my yard even though it isn't as vivid as the flower itself: You may want to look up several different pictures of each one to get an idea of the range of what it might look like. Different growning conditions can affect the overall color. All Fired Up did pretty well in the Georgia heat. It is the darker colors (burgundy, red, dark orange, purple, etc.) that are most affected by the heat. You will have to keep the roots system moist to keep your daylilies happy if your temperatures are in the nineties like they are here, so use lots of mulch to help. Just lighten up right at the base of the plants to help prevent disease. Larry...See MoreUPDATE: traveling daylily angels 5500 send & get daylilies
Comments (100)Hey ya! I hope everyone had a nice long weekend to enjoy. Beautiful weather here! Sherri, wish I could keep her this size. MaryB, a diagram for you :). Lots more stuff in there not pictured. Brugmansia 'Creamsickle' three blooms on a heat stressed plant and Coleus 'Lava Rose'- my favorite coleus this year. My business is slow as expected when starting out. I have a partial website (go figure?), my license, business cards. Made a bag with my logo on it that I carry around. I have about 6 websites going right now. Enough to pay the business bills. BTW, Gloria I have a bill for you coming your way today :). Love ya, Hottie! CindyO, you are about 350 miles for me, well duh, I guess you already know how far. I would love to come! I can drop my back seat in the Blazer and make lots of room, but I would have to leave the kids with you so I could haul the loot back home. Love that seedling of yours! I just picked the last of the seedpods yesterday. Now we have about 1000 seeds to figure out where to plant. Marea! YAY, a tropical! Diane, got your test email. Debbie, happy B-day! Miss Susan, have you and Dan gone off and got married without us? The Stapelia you sent me last year is about to bloom any day now. I may be cussing you soon :). Anita, your in my thoughts. Deni, if you can read this, you are the most thoughtful and generous soul! ~Canna...See MoreBest Orange and Peach Daylilies of 2021
