Dormant Amaryllis with Lots of Roots??

LisaBC

A friend moved away to another state and left me LOTS of her large, healthy, blooming-size amaryllis bulbs! :D I want to take care of them correctly so that they will bloom for me, too! My friend had already started to dry them in their pots and now most of their leaves are brown and crispy. I unpotted the leafless bulbs this morning, and found that they have many long healthy roots. I was planning to store them out of the soil this winter, but since I live in the high desert, I know that the roots will be shriveled up within the week if I don't replant them soon.

Shall I replant the bulbs in pots and keep the soil on the dry side in our cool, dim garage all winter?
