Comments (32)Hey Paula did you start it really early? I had luck with mine when I got it mail order April of 2002 (when I first did this post! Wow I can't believe how long ago that was and this post is still kicking around). I planted it out right away when it was still cool and wet out and by the time the heat came around it was settled in nicely and needed no special care. However we had a really cold winter that year and it did not survive. I am curious as to how yours would do long term though come to think of it I do believe that I remember hearing of one in Virginia. What do I know though? I'm certainly not growing one now. I know they were very easy in coastal California (the garden I was at was digging up seedlings all the time and selling them in the nursery) and in England they were incredible. I will look for my pic from Wisley and post it....See MoreWhite Marble - support group, ideas, brilliant solutions - GO!
Comments (22)Thanks for all the posts. We've had the calacatta in for about two months….and I love it! Even though my fabricator said it was sealed once at the shop and I saw him put on Bulletproof at my house, it was still taking in dark water marks almost immediately after water hit it. I guess I got a porous slab. I used some more Bulletproof and it got a little better. Then I used 311 Miracle Porous Plus (which I bought from Amazon). Let me tell you, that stuff is the best. You have to test it, but man….did that solve my darkening problems. I'm not going to say I won't have a problem, but it sure seems to be holding up well now. I love that Porous Plus…highly recommend. I've actually had more issues with the honed Lagos Azul limestone which I have on my bar area…that stuff takes in stains…I had a gardenia floating in a bowl of water and somehow the bowl left a ring? It was water! The ring faded after 2 weeks and although I can still see it, it is very faint….but that material seems to be way more temperamental than the calacatta. I bought the Range Kleen mats and have cutting boards all over the place. We try to set drinks on cutting boards just in case they could leave a ring, but so far so good. If anyone is thinking about white marble, I saw go for it. But ask me again in a year! I'm still waiting for my kitchen backsplash, then I'll post pics....See MoreCorona support group
Comments (29)Feathers11, hope you are feeling better soon. Coopers8828, thank you for taking in the pets. On a good note, I live in a pretty walkable neighborhood, and I just dropped off my bike for a spring tuneup (really, it needs a huge overhaul vs. a minor tuneup) which should be ready Tuesday or Wednesday. There is greenway access near my house where this section was completed last fall, and I will take advantage of the the next three weeks (spring break and two weeks remote instruction) to get outside. Now the weather must cooperate! I went to the Y yesterday for Spin class. Really thought about that as many of the Y's are crazy on Saturday mornings due to youth programming. BUT they canceled all the Saturday morning youth leagues, so it was empty! This 10:45 Spin gets about 10-15 people at best, and yesterday there were 5 of us in a very large room of 40 bikes, so we were not really concerned as we could all stay well apart. Our instructor told us they are taking off the seats on every other bike to limit the number of participants. They are also doing so with other group fitness classes to limit the number of participants. Yeah, that's gonna go well! (sarcasm). There are some very entitled people at these Y's. So, glad I have the back up plan of walking and the bike. I also ordered some dumbbells and yoga supplies from Amazon for home since the Y said they are taking away all the mats, blocks, straps, and bolsters. Seriously, with all these restrictions , it is probably best to just workout at home. Since we are teaching remotely, the original plan was to have our building remain open for those people who have to be on campus. But they have decided to close it due to lack of student workers and risk of potential exposure in recreational settings. So, that means we cannot use the workout facilities including the walking track due to liability reasons if the building is closed. We can access the building should we need to, but I'm pretty sure I packed up what i need for grading and teaching during this time....See MoreVideo conference support group for all you trapped at home
Comments (25)I just saw this thread, 10 days late, or I would have joined. I did go to the link, and it worked fine, although I did not test the sound. I'm using my laptop here in Cathedral City, and it is a built-in video camera, but I do not know where the microphone is. I would have to guess that it is next to the camera. I usually use headphones for the sound, as they sound much better. I cannot read any NY Times articles, but here's a C-NET article on the subject, regarding privacy concerns. I don't think they apply to me because I am not working from home. I did just get a call from my ex-boss yesterday, and she told me that she misses me and wanted to know how my brother and I were doing. I asked about her children in NY, and she told me that they had recently taken a trip to the Bahamas, and some of them had to change planes in NY to get to Boston. This was just 10 days ago, and she was not happy about that....See Moresteilberg
